What are the best things you can do after surgery.kind of things have people done on here to keep busy and not worry about your lymph node results.

  • Hi Dc

I binged on TV box sets - can’t even remember which ones but did distract me.

  • Hi Beth how did you mastectomy go.  What other treatments do you have to do

  • Morning - I also binged on boxsets, read books, sat outside (as it was July when I had my mx), tried doing a jigsaw, saw friends and went for coffee with them before I started chemo x

  • Hi,

I hope younare doing ok after surgery.

In the early days, box sets and reading, then I started knitting again. The occasional trip out for coffee also helped and a short walk each day.I also had time to make some cards and online Christmas shopping.

  • Hi

I have used reading and audiobooks a lot. Also podcasts to help me sleep.

Tried jigsaws but ran out of patience lol.

Tried to exercise everyday too even if I didn't feel like it.

    xx

  • I was initially diagnosed with high grade DCIS, lymph nodes looked clear on US. Because of the size they did a mastectomy with SLNB. Post surgery they found some invasion but lymph nodes clear thankfully. Final diagnosis was grade 2 invasive carcinoma NST arising in wider zone of high grade DCIS 73 x 40 m within which there were further foci of micro invasive carcinoma. I had the surgery in June and  5 day radiotherapy in August. The mastectomy went ok and I was up and about fairly quickly. Had a drain for 1 night in hospital. No chemo required. I am still struggling a bit with tightness and swelling underarm - still doing my exercises daily but not sure if this is normal. I’m on holiday at the moment so will contact my BCN when back to check.

  • I’m glad your feeling better I am really hoping that I don’t have to do chemo very scared even thinking about it. I still have a long journey to go

  • Thank you. I hope it goes well for you. I was also worried about chemo and the surgeon did say that it was discussed post surgery by the MDT but they decided not to. He didn’t say why. X

  • When I was still being dealt with by the Breast Clinic there was no mention of chemo and was graded as stage 2.  I had the choice of having tablets to reduce my tumour or have immediate surgery - I chose the surgery and was booked in asap.  It wasn’t until they completed the surgery that chemo came into the equation due to a scoring method they do - my tumour was 10cm and they did a full lymph clearance.  I’ve also got to have 15 sessions of radiotherapy and have hormone therapy for 10 years instead of the quoted 5 years.
