Rogue Implant!

Hi All

Quick question but have any of you had an implant that has dislodged itself from the 'pocket' within a week after surgery?

I had a single mastectomy in July 22 with immediate implant (Nipple sparing) and 15 rounds of radiotherapy after which I was told may upset the implant which it did. it was very high (Almost under my chin)  and also became very hard. Anyway, 12 months after having radio I could have my reconstruction on both which was a replacement implant on cancer side and lift/reduction on good side. However, after a week I noticed that the implant again seemed very high but thought it may have been swelling. At my post opp appointment my surgeon immediately said that's not right when he looked and scanned the area o see if it was swelling (It wasn't) he was very shocked that this had happened and wasn't sure why/how. The only explanation he said was that the pocket in which the implant was sitting was slightly bigger than last time as scar tissue was removed. Anyway, I'm back in January to see if it has settled and if not I will have the implant removed and another put in!

Sorry for the long post but I keep thinking if there is anything I should/shouldn't have done?! I thought it may have been that I did too much (Housework etc) to soon but then I knew my limits and did lift anything heavy etc. Then I'm thinking did this happen last time and it was just put down to the radiotherapy?

Thank you in advance x

  • Hi, I'm sorry I cannot advise you myself, but I noticed you haven’t had any replies as the site is quite busy, my response will bump your post to the top again and hopefully someone with the right experience will be along soon. Best wishes
