Joint pain and the very cold weather

Hi all, it’s been the coldest day where I live (minus 4 rising to about -1 then dropping again). I’ve noticed that in the last few days, and today has been the worst, that my Anastrazole aches and pains have got worse. Apparently painful joints is a common phenomenon when it’s really cold, due to the drop in barometric pressure, but heck, it’s my limbs, neck etc. Getting into bed and warming up does help a lot, but I do have to get out, and want to also. Has anyone else noticed their joints aching more in the very cold weather?

    • Hi, it's funny you should say this, but today I was out all day, walking and standing outside, in about 0'C.  The activity in itself usually means I have less aches and pains but my knees were aching this evening. I wonder now if it's related to the cold…..

    1. Hi  . Not personally had the pains but thinking how to warm you up! Just suggesting an 'oodie' is great to warm up - i have cheap one from mens department in primark if thats any help. Lots wear those dry robes too, the Blacks shop has some cheaper types than the dryrobe themselves. I also have a heated blanket from amazon which is good. Im searching for warmer pj's this evening, my m&s thin cotton isnt enough - i slept in my oodie last night!
  • Yes definitely, my arthritis pains are much worse in  old weather!

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • Hi  , definitely finding that my Anastrozole aches and pains are worse in the cold and damp. I think it really is medication induced arthritis and that most joint pains are worse in this kind of weather. Also I’ve noticed that my circulation is a lot worse since going on the ‘nasty’ tabs. I wear socks to bed which I’ve never had to do before! Then I get a hot flush at some point, stick all my limbs out to cool down and chuck off the socks. It’s maddening! Did a lovely Nordic walk yesterday which I mostly enjoyed but now realise I need warmer gloves since circulation deterioration, so at times my hands were so cold I could have cried! Unfortunately I think it’s just all part of the lack of oestrogen, I hope so anyway as means the tabs are doing their job! Love and hugs, HFxx

  • Thank you everyone for replying, and for confirming my own thoughts on this. I realised from your replies that I probably wasn’t wrapping up warm enough (even though I didn’t actually feel cold). So yesterday I wore a velour Christmassy tunic (lined with velour as well as outside). It comes down to my knees and has a roll turtle neck. Everyone comments on how warm it looks when I wear it. Instead of tights, I wore some contrasting leggings underneath, then my sons chunky hiking socks and a pair of bootees. I wrapped up with my late mums cashmere pashmina, gently wrapped round my chest and neck, wore a hat, and a pair of gloves.
Last night I did not ache in the same way as Friday evening (I was so down with it). I did not have the nerve pain either. Perhaps this extra care on dressing for winter kept the muscles, ligaments, and nerves warm and relaxed? I read on the internet that low barometric pain causes the muscles and ligaments to expand. These, in turn, press on the bones, joints and nerve endings. Well, that’s what Dr Google said!
it means taking a little longer to get ready for the outside, but hey ho! Best wishes to you all x
