vaguely remember the bcn just mentioning, you need to inject yourself daily, not sure what this is for, mastectomy done, chemo starting next weds 6th, not sure if i am up to self injecting, is there options  thank you

  • It will probably be the injections you have 1 day after your chemo. I couldn’t self inject so just popped back to the hospital and they did it x

  • thank you, i couldnt find the thread but i am sure some one said they had the district nurse come out, rather than struggle getting to and from the hospital, will ask when i have the vein assessment friday, are they each day for a week the injections? thank you

  • It was just one injection the day after (unless it’s something different) x

  • hi there, its the injections to boost your white blood cells. i was dubious at first, so for the first went to nurse for some training.

it was a bit daunting but very doable and i find they dont hurt, once in awhile my aim is a bit ouch, but i did it because the trouble to go back and forth wasnt worth it. i had to do 5 days worth after each session. now on my last. just use cleaning wipe and do into belly or thigh, belly hurts less more cushioning

  • thank you for the info, feel sick just thinking about it, ridicolous, got through right mastectomy but this is stressing me out, will chat to the nurse when vein assessment done this friday,

It’s OK! I chose to do my own and it was nerve wracking to start with but I did mine 6pm every evening then cracked on cooking dinner.  You soon forget and I had no after effects. I wish you well when the time comesxxxx

5 days after each chemo x

  • thank you tavares, i always thought i was super organised but the info to take in when at breast clinic, and the amount of various appointments to get too, insane, still feels like i am in denial with it all even with a boob missing, think a day at a time is definately the way forward, putting that into practice is another matter!!!

  • justask for them to show you how, there is no worry about aim or veins, hugs

as tavares says its over fast and i did mine around 5pm too

  • I was on the phone with daughter for ages when she did her first one, she had loads to do and got very adept at it (fortunate as she now has to self-administer immunoglobulins which is more complex) - nothing about bc because she had a long illness with a blood cancer. (It’s on my profile)

as a bit of advice, she was advised to take Claritin tablets the day before and through the course of the jabs, it helps prevent too much bone pain, an odd use of an antihistamine but apparently it does help. Check it out with your BCN!

    Hugs xxx
