I’m about to start Letrozole and have been instructed about the side effects, one of which is hot flushes. I’m 70 and went through menopause in my 50s, although the flushes lasted until approximately 65. I’ve realised that I’ve been experiencing a few hot flushes for several months even without the Letrozole. It’s got me wondering whether oestrogen receptive breast cancer itself can cause hot flushes. Anyone else experience this?
What an interesting observation you make. I’m in my 40’s and was experiencing hot flushes and night sweats for a good year prior to breast cancer diagnosis. I was convinced it was to do with menopause and taking after my mum who went through menopause in her later 30’s to 40’s. Sadly I carried on with life convincing myself that it had to be menopause. I am still experiencing the symptoms and now that I am off the mirena, my periods have returned and on reflection I have also wondered whether there is a link between the hot flushes and night sweats, mood swings ad breast cancer. I have not started treatment yet.
