I have had three rounds of EC and about to start 12 of weekly taxel I can’t take the cold cap any longer ( although quite liked it first couple of times) I don’t want to be there for so long on a weekly basis so I shaved my head on Sunday. My 17 yr old came with me to choose a wig a few weeks ago but did want to see my bald patches before my decided to shave and waould get involved in the shave and tonight walked into the kitchen and straight back out when she saw I didn’t have a hat or wig on. I tried talking to her earlier but she won’t talk to me and won’t open up. I know she is struggling but I can’t have head covered all the time at home. Any suggestions
time is all, just time, and maybe forced hugs from mum
i am sure ithas just sent it home to her you have cancer, can you find humour in it,?
tell her it’s not a sign of the end, but a beginning of new hair. a step you had to take hugs
i generally wear a baseball cap around house and family, only wear hair to shops. I never shaved my head but chopped hair really short myself, now i have wispy bits, make a good bald man comb over
Hi Dipper
My two boys struggled at first. My 16 Yr old could stay in the same room said he was OK with it but couldn't look at me. My 24 Yr old couldn't stay in same room and got upset.
Three weeks on they're both fine with it. They said it was because I looked ill.
I do worry they don't talk about how they are with it all. Especially my 16 Yr old as I don't think their friends would understand. I just try and talk as much as possible and bring humour into it when I can. Although suggesting I go as Uncle Fester from the Addams family for Halloween was a joke too far for them!
I wear a thin beanie or nothing in the house. I've not wore my wig yet - to be honest I've kind of got used to not having to do my hair before I go out.
Sending g hugs to you and your daughter
xx
I wore beanies and bandannas because I found it hard to wear my wig all day , I bought mine from a site called. ANNA BANDANNA not that expensive either. I went bald , now a month after chemotherapy hair starting to grow back it’s is like baby hair but it’s defined growing .
take care xxx
