Bit of a long shot but is anyone , or has anyone been in the same position as me. I have been given a date for WLE on 8th December. I attended for pre-op which I assumed would just be routine, but I have recently received an appointment to meet with the anaesthetist the week before. I assume this is because I have a past history of AF, treated by ablation and now take anti-clog. i wasn't unduly worried till today when speaking wit h a member of my Tai Chi class and she said her husband's cancer surgery was put on hold for 6 months as he had had a heart attack a few months before his cancer diagnosis. Wish now I had never had the original mammogram 5 years ago--I was out of the age range but as I received an invite I thought why not. Then one area DCIS showed but after consultation with the surgeon and his agreement I chose not to have surgery but annual mammograms. No changes for 4 years till now. Ignorance would have been bliss. Nothing to see or feel then and nothing to see or feel now.
Hi,
I don't have a heart condition, but I did take warfarin. I needed to come off this prior to surgery and change to injections pre op. I'm sure the anaesthetic review is just to make sure your condition is stable and if they need to do anything special to monitor you, or if they need more information before surgery. I was told during my pre op assessment that I would be flagged to the anaesthetic team for discussion, but surgery went ahead as planned. A friend had his AF found at his pre op assessment. His op (knee replacement) was postponed for a couple of weeks, until he had an ECHO. His anaesthetist said they were well used to patients with AF.
I hope this helps reassure you a little and I wish you luck with your op.
Hi Planning and welcome to the forum . I have just had surgery today under a general Anaesthetic and the Anaesthetist came to see me as I have had a heart attack. He said that there were two different ways on anaesthetising people and the one I had was for people with Heart condition so it is possible and no delays. You will as someone else had said have to stop blood thinners before surgery . I was wired up for sound in theatre and when I Came round but gradually got bits removed from the monitoring . xxxxx
