Hi all, My hair has started to grow back and it seems to be growing in every direction. I had long curly hair before the dreaded chemo but cut it in stages before I started eventually shaving it Eyebrows fine eyelashes back but one is growing towards the inside of the eye and I'm trying to train it outwards! Radiotherapy has left me with red sore itchy skin which is up to my neck as lymph nodes were involved. I'm injecting blood thinners daily as I have a thrombosis in the arm, so my belly is bruised and sore. Basically I feel a mess. I try to make the effort when I go out with false eyelashes and make up and wear headscarves. I start Zometa infusions next week, so not sure what the side effects will be. I just want to feel like me again, I know my life will never be the same but Iwant to enjoy it and do what I can. Love to all
Hi there Musicmumma! Boy don’t we know how you feel! Firstly, I had longish hair, which I had Brazilian straightened regularly…it’s now grown back and looks, frankly, ridiculous!! It’s thinner on top but growing out sideways! My neighbour (a hairdresser) said don’t cut it yet and let the weight take it down but I still wear my wig when I go to functions (which is probably why it’s not growing properly at front!). Given up on mascara as lashes so thin..as for skin, I use E45 and Aveno twice a day and have found this helps. You can also buy Medihoney at Amazon, expensive but fab! RT dept gave me lots of tubes during treatment. I’m sorry you’re having to inject, I hated the injections but it’s means to an end and hopefully v quickly for you x I’ve had 3 rounds of Zoladronic acid (bisohosphonate) same as Zometa. After effects for me kick in 2 days later with shaky legs and lower back pain BUT…It doesn’t affect everyone and my pal has sailed through her 3yrs of acid infusions so do not despair! Better to be forewarned so nothing comes as a shock…important too that you visit dentist before infusions, I guess you've been told? All in all, the ongoing maintenance we receive is all to the good. Keep occupied, watch comedy on tv or get engrossed in a good read. I do enjoy my life a yr on and find things to do like sorting out my husbands wardrobe! Who still wears white loafers and velvet jackets????
Hi Tamara's.. thanks rfor your rreply.I did laugh about the loafers and velvet jacket I do try to keep busy, which I mostly do ,I did buy a new cream which seems to be helping a bit more, it's my hair that is really getting me down as it was so lovely, it will take years to get it back! I am going to get it trimmed but I will wait until at least the new year. Just so annoying. Thanks for the comments on the zometa, I just like to be prepared for any and all side effects so its not a shock! I'm not a winter person and always get fed up this time of year but all the extra crap makes it feel worse. Roll on spring! Thanks again. Take care xx
I’ve had a leaflet on everything from Day 1 which are all in a folder. My acid leaflet does include side effects and of course you can look in the NHS A-Z website which gives details of most cancer drugs. Glad you still like to wear false eyelashes..I’ve had many a disaster with those, one involving dinner in a seafood restaurant..but we won’t go there! Sending best wishes. Here’s hoping everything goes smoothly for you. We do need some respite from all we’ve been through! ️
