Has anyone else been in the situation where they were told a biopsy takes around 48 hours and they’d get a call as the results would be discussed the following week and then been told they’re not back? I went for a biopsy last Tuesday and was told the results would be discussed the following Wednesday but they’re not ready. I’m wondering if they’ve had to be sent for further testing and they’re just not wanting to tell me it’s bad news? Would they tell me if it looks bad and has been sent for further testing?
Hi, I wouldn’t read anything, good or bad, in to this frustrating situation. I am surprised results back so soon. It’s normally longer in many places, with results not being given for 2-4 weeks. It sounds as though your hospital has shorter waiting times, which is fantastic. Have you rung your breast nurse to get a new date for results. I do feel for you whilst you wait - it’s the hardest part. Hope you get your results soon x
Did they tell you it was sent for further testing or was that just the wait for the initial biopsy? Did it end up being cancer? Were they able to tell you straight away what type it was or did you have to wait for more tests? Sorry for all the questions I’m just super stressed about it all. I was expecting to know today and the fact I don’t has sent me into a bit of a spiral again! Thanks
Hi, no it wasn't sent for further testing - that's just the time it took.
The waiting is the worst bit but try not to read things into it. It takes time to go through the lab and the medical teams.
Yes mine was cancer and they told me from the biopsy result.
I will keep my fingers crossed that yours is not.
I don’t have any dates or time for anything yet, I was told I’d get a call today. I didn’t so I chased them and they just said it wasn’t back in time to be reviewed yesterday. It’s because the consultant said they usually take 48 hours to come back so I’m worried why they’re taking longer. I’ve got to wait another week now until they do their reviews on a Wednesday, I don’t know if it just genuinely wasn’t back or it’s had to be sent for more tests. The ultrasound dr said they were swaying towards it being a fibroadenoma so I’m hoping they wouldn’t say that if they weren’t not far off certain but obviously they wouldn’t guarantee anything.
I was told 2 weeks for biopsy results, I got a call from the breast care nurse after 10 days saying my results wouldn’t be back in time so a new appointment was made for 3 weeks. It was due to volume of work the laboratory has to get through , nothing more although it doesn’t stop you worrying.
Ann
Thank you, it sounds like 2-3 weeks is more the norm. I think being told they take 48 hours has made me worry more than needed about the time it’s taking. I’m not surprised as they’re over the 2ww I was advised about for the initial appointment. Thank you
