Hi everyone

I am in my third week after my first chemo session. My hair has been falling out for 5 days, my scalp is so painful I think I’m going to just shave it all off.
I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to care for your scalp once you’ve shaved? What lotions or oils to use?

thank you xx

  • i have pit rosemary water on and jojoba oil. also only washevery other show kinda, no hair so just let water run over mostly

  • Just moisturise and wash with water. Something gentle and unscented will be kindest to your skin. The tenderness does ease once your hair has gone. X

  • I’m going into my 3rd week of chemo and head itching like hell and I noted a bit started coming out when I was straightening my hair earlier , so guess it’s ready for the shave very soon  before it starts to get too sore.  They say to keep to wash your head daily and keep it clean and when hair falls out to put a protective barrier cream on it. I’ll be following this routine to hopefully keep my head from being too sore or dry . Also to wear a soft cotton hat to bed helps.

  • i just cut hair short and let what may go,i have sparse hair, i was only infrequently with scalp care shampoo, otherwise i just rinse w water in shower, as i said i put jojoba on occaionally, my hair was sensative on first chemo ac, i even got one scabby area, but not so on taxol.

but best to follow routine that works for you, ihave night sweats and mostly my head (genetics) so well moisturised usually lol

  • Hi, I use Body Shop’s Ginger Scalp Serum and shampoo - it smells lovely and has stopped any scalp flakiness. X

  • Hi, about 4 weeks after shaving my hair off my scalp was so itchy it kept me awake at night, it was also weeping.  I told the nurses when I went for chemo and they gave me two tubes of PLIAZON cream, within 24 hours the itching had reduced significantly xxx

I used Aqueous cream to moisturise head massaging into scalp usually before shower then after shower massaged small amount in .
I Also  used bamboo beanie hats and sleep caps you can get them on Amazon thru the day .lost mine in the December so. if going out I used knitted headbands over beanie to match outfits and add colour . Easier than wig .

One step at a time and ...Breathe !

  • I went through the same thing during my chemo sessions. Shaving your head can be a relief. I found that using a gentle moisturizer or aloe vera gel really helped soothe the scalp. Also, make sure to protect your head from the sun.
