Hello everyone,
Just after peoples experiences really. My mum has just started abemaciclib and it's made me wonder how long the side effects take to start showing?
She's reacted badly to all treatment so far, nearly every side effects possible so awaiting it starting with this.
I know everyone's different but it still helps to hear other people's experiences.
Thanks
Hi.
I started these last month. I started on a Friday. Was OK over the weekend and then had to rush to the loo on Monday. To be honest it was a relief when it happened as I had been on tenterhooks all weekend, it was like waiting for a bomb to go off. The tiredness has taken longer to kick in but is now very apparent. Hope your Mum copes OK with the side effects.
Thanks for your reply.
I guess it makes sense for it to take a few days of being in your system to start. Has your stomach settled at all?
I'm really hoping this goes easier for her than previous treatments but I imagine it'll go badly again. She's quite drug sensitive.
Hope you're not feeling too bad with it all.
The first few weeks it was every few days. It did seem to be getting longer between episodes. Although last weekend I must have eaten something that upset my stomach and I suffered for a few days straight. So far it has been manageable. I do find the loperamide does the trick. Sometimes too much so it can be a bit of a balancing act.
My oncology team say it is early days and it might settle down further. On the whole my digestive system is quite good. Always seem to have avoided those tummy bugs that kids bring home from nursery and school so maybe I am just lucky.
My team have been very clear from the start that they don't want it impacting on my quality of life too much. They are very open to reducing the dose to help with the side effects if it becomes too much. This is a relief as I know other people on here have had to persuade their teams to reduce their dose.
Hi, I'm on cycle 14,so 10 more months to go.
Everyone is different, and for some the side effects are very few.
Main problems for me have been fatigue & diarrhoea. I had a dose reduction after 7 months to help. My hair has also grown a lot slower & thinned
I eat a low fibre diet now to help & pace myself with doing things as get tired easy.
Intially it took a couple of weeks for things to start, but as your body gets more saturated with the drug, things can worsen
You are monitored really closely to make sure you are coping.
Hope your Mom gets on OK with it as the results look really promising
Best wishes x
