Hello , do different brands of anastrozole have different side effects. I have just got crescent brand and my joints are unbearably painful. which brand effect the joints the least. who do I ask to get the best brand. my chemist or my doctor. thanks
Anastrozole is similar to Letrozole which I’m on but when I had difficulty in sourcing it, my GP rang my oncologist who sent me 1 pack of Anastrozole. I have had minor joint pain for the 6 months I’ve been on letrozole but work through it, plus I’m in 6 monthly bone infusions. Speak to oncology but they may expect you to persevere for at least 6 months. It’s all about the costs!!
Hi Painter, I've read a few posts on here over the last year about the different brands of Anastrazole and different people have different reactions it seems. A lot have said Accord is good I've been on that brand since April 2022 with hardly any side effects. Unfortunately there has been problems with getting that brand recently, some issues with production, so my next lot are by Teva and I'll start them next week. I read on here a while ago that Teva brand was made the same as Accord so hoping no side effects.
Good luck hope you find one that has less side effects.
Hello I haven’t been on here for a while. I started on Letrazole now on Anastrazole. I’m nearly in tears with a pain in my foot and groin pain. I had elbow pain which started during chemo. Also excruciating coccyx pain during chemo ( using walking sticks). Please does anyone know if all this joint pain ends ??? I have a few months to go before I switch to tamoxifen. The only bit of my body which hasn’t been scanned is my foot. All scans show inflammation. I don’t think I will make Pilates today.
HELP ANYONE XX
Thanks for all your replies. good to know the side effects are not in my head.
It's mainly my knees and wrists. all the doctor offers is pain killers, and as I am already rattling with pills......(the anastrozole raises cholesterol levels so they put you on statins , it also effects bone density or the lack of oestrogen does so you are given vitamin D and other stuff to counteract that.....ect) . I started on the Teva brand which was fine . my chemist couldn't get it anymore so swapped to accord which i had to get used to . Have just got another script for that so have stopped taking the crescent brand which I really reacted badly to.
Has anyone talked to their oncologist about the more recent research on the long term effectiveness (and long term side effects) of these hormone blockers/inhibitors?
I found I had more hot flushes on one brand of anastrazole. According to my oncologist the drugs in each brand are the same but its the coating and other additives that can change side effects. Interesting about groin pain as I have suddenly had pain this week - didn't link it to my tablets!
