Hi everyone,

not posted on here since last year but i am currently on some chemo tablets (capecitabine), which were fine for the first few months but now i am really suffering with my hands a nd feet - soreness, skin cracking and its now painful to walk and use my hands. was just wondering if anyone else had had these symptoms and what they did to relieve the pain?

thank you in advance

Amanda

  • Sorry you are having this side effect  .It is a well known side effect of Capecitabine, unfortunately. I used various creams which helped somewhat, but you need advice from your onco dept. At first I would try your BCN. Good luck xx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • Hi It was the red dye doxetaxel in chemo which lead to my dry feet, fortunately not hands. Hate to say 12 months down the line still suffering.

I find they stay soft after a both, if i use E45 cream. but as we have had a'poison' put in our systems, its going to be as long as it takes for this to be flushed out. It doesnt help that we now have 2 - 10 years of other poisons going in in the form of Letrozole, and abemaciclib - verzenios.

The plus side these chemicals are for long term benefit. So i just ignore the dryness and apply am and pm irrespective. then enjoy sand between myh toes when at a seaside break. Re hands i wear gloves for most tasks washing up, gardening then hand cream at night, some swear by adding gloves.  The more natural a cream the better and to be honest those containing lanolin are the best, you don't see many sheep with dry skin!

Good luck and let me know how you go on. and bear with me as i struggle to  access the forum being anewby and not technical qualified, ie dont do social media. love and hugs.

  • I have heard that moogoo udder cream is fabulous for hand foot syndrome and also ice foot baths can be soothing. Am so sorry you are struggling with this x

  • Yes udder cream is good, however as its primarily a barrier cream it needs washing off daily. Also too many hot baths or soaks, long term actually damage sensitive skin around the foot as the circulating oxygenated blood struggles to refresh this area. hence reason many older people benefit from regular Dopplers and Compression socks. people dont elevate their feet enough throughout the day, or younger people dont exercise their feet enough. I recently read the more walking bare foot ie around your carpeted house, the better this can make things. Soz for diatribe but i've sampled all these areas over recent years due to Vector issues.

    Love xx
