I'm post surgery, mid-chemo (feeling dreadful), with radiotherapy to come but as my prognosis is good once all the treatment is over, I hope to resurrect holiday plans for next year. What are the premiums like once you've had a breast cancer diagnosis? Shall I wait until all the treatment is complete before getting a quote? Is it worth getting a Fit to Travel Note from the Oncologist, has it made any difference to the quote? Its such a massive subject that I don't know where to start , MacMillan have given me general advice but I still need to get quotes. Has anyone had a reasonable quote from a company, with pre-existing conditions included?
Thanks
Christine
Hi Christine and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
Unfortunately, it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when you've had a cancer diagnosis so can I recommend that you join us over in the travel insurance group where you'll find recommendations from others who have been successful. Once you've joined look for the thread called 'recommended travel insurance' as this is where the majority of recommendations are.
Most people say that it's best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also, sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.
I don't think having a Fit to Travel Note from your oncologist will make any difference to the cost of the premium as that isn't something I've ever seen asked for on an online quote or been asked if I have over the phone.
I waited until all my treatment was finished before I booked a holiday and I made sure that I could get travel insurance before I booked it.
It's very difficult to say what the premiums are like as so much more than just your cancer diagnosis is taken into account when getting a quote. For me it ranged from no extra premium with my existing insurer to not being offered a quote by another and then all sorts of prices in between.
I hope this helps
Hi I used payingtoomuxh.com. it's similar to compare the market etc but specialises in quotes for pre existing medical conditions. I was able to get a policy for me and my breast cancer and hubby with his numerous medical conditions for 12 months European cover around £150 quid.
Thank you, I will join that forum. I know its really important to make sure everything is covered and divulged. Many thanks
