Hi everyone, just wondered how people are passing the time. I'm off work and I'm soooo struggling lol. I'm never one for sitting down and I always have be doing something. I try and walk every day bRoflut nfortunately I'm riddled with osteoarthritis and waiting on a new hip so I can only go as far as my legs take me! I sound like an old woman and I'm only 51 RoflRofl

I have been doing drawings and colouring in ...even went and bought new pencils and gel pens, I felt like a teenager again! My sister bought me cross stitch but I'm useless at it haha...I can't see where the needle is meant to go!

Soi also like to read and watch TV. But has anybody else got any ideas, and what do you get up to in your spare time?. My surgery not till 15th September so couple weeks to go!

Stay safe and much love ButterflyHearts

  • Hi, thank you for starting a really useful thread! I did a few jigsaw puzzles, and when on chemo I listened to audio books, especially the serialisations on Radio 4. At that time two books  were serialised everyday (just 15 minutes each ) but it did provide some structure during the day, and something to look forward to.
Your colouring equipment sounds fab!! X

Bless you!! You’re definitely not old!! I have joined a C group in my area called Pink Place…they meet twice a week for chats, socials and loads of other things. Is there anything like that in your area? If not, why not start a group?! Put an ad out locally or word of mouth, invite peeps for coffee, tell them to bring cake! If it does well people can then reciprocate! Let us know what you decide! (I started a neighbours coffee morning and there are 8 of us who take it in turns to host! I found out that 2 ladies have/had C!! It’s great fun!)

  • Hi cloudier.

Unfortunately I have nowhere to do a jigsaw or I would! My husband works shifts and I have no family here or friends so always looking to keep myself busy while off work!

The adult colouring books are great, and I was a kid in a sweetie shop with the range of pens,/ pencils etc!! All good fun Relaxed

Hope your doing ok, much luv and take care xx

  • Hi tavares.

Thanks for the reply, and unfortunately I feel old lol! I will have a scour on the internet to see if anything is going on in my area. As I've said I don't any of my family through here, although only an hour away and just have work mates really.

Who knows, something might come out of it!

    Take care Kissing heart

  • Hi, I must admit I continued to work so that kept me busy, so I don't envy you filling in the time. What about podcasts? Binge watching a series on Netflix? I find baking is a good relaxation for me and keeps me focussed too. Sudoku or similar puzzles on line perhaps.  Hopefully you'll get some ideas

You could try asking in your GP surgery about groups etc.

  • check your local library if you have one, i finally did and they have a writing class coming up

  • Hiiiii

I walk, tidy, paint and draw, read lots, watch movies or documentaries and meditate!! They all help me to relax otherwise I exhaust myself worrying and fretting.

     Helps me!! Heartpulse

  • Hi I too must admit I worked right up to the day before my op.  Now ive my mx and started my 1st session chemo - I’ve been reading books & mags, watched box sets, done a jigsaw, tried walking (which I overdid & ended up back in bed for a day), trying to do puzzles (though no good at crosswords). I’ve got given a colouring book with pencils so I may well give that a try as there is only so much tv you can watch !  I’m longing for friends to visit but husband is weary about that due to the reduction in my immune system.

good luck with your op x

  • And hubby is right to be wary of infection. I was very careful during my chemo and minimised visits from friends and shops. Esp second week of cycle. I also wore a mask when I did go out. My mum came over regularly but was super careful and always did COVID test before coming over.

In terms of keeping busy I too was able to work throughout post surgery and chemo radio. I only worked reduced hours and was able to work from home. Oncologist supported this on the condition I could work from home.
