Sorry for asking similar questions again but.....I had a single mastectomy in July last year with immediate implant and although I was told it would probably be temporary due to having radiotherapy, after reading a lot of things on here and other sites it seems that many of you were given a DIEP at the same time as mastectomy. I have an appointment on 4th September to arrange final reconstruction (Extremely lop sided and no amount of tape etc works) and thinking of asking why this wasn't offered or is it a regional thing maybe? Others have also had the 'other side' done at the same time which would have been lovely and mean not having to go through the op again. I know it's very trivial in the scheme of things but so want to be 'normal' again! xx
Just received a letter from the hospital cancelling my appointment on Monday (4th Sept) until 2nd October I know it's trivial and I should be happy I'm still here but I've been waiting soooooo long for this appointment and to top it all the 2nd October is when they are going on strike! It's also a consultant that I haven't seen before and only deals with implant reconstruction. So the dilemma I have is do I call and re-arrange (Which will probably be even later) or do I go for the DIEP? I was wondering how long anyone has waited for this procedure and was it worth it.
Any advice gratefully received x
Hi, I think these are very reasonable questions for you to ask and to me it makes sense that you would like to fully understand why a particular solution was recommended for you and why others were not. Perhaps also having those answers gives you some peace of mind. I personally didn’t have reconstruction so cannot offer a personal perspective, but if it were me, I’d want to know the rationale. Best wishes
