Advice needed!
I had a left side mastectomy in July last year and opted for immediate implant although I knew it would be temporary as I also needed radiotherapy. Anyway, fast forward 15 months (12 months since radio) and I have a second appointment early September to finalize the reconstruction. At my earlier appointment I was sort of told that the implant will be replaced and I would have reduction and uplift on the 'good' boob!? Although I am absolutely desperate to get them matching (They're like the North-South divide at the moment)! and finally wear clothes without thinking of what won't show the obvious issue of being lopsided and different size showing I would like to know of other options and what you have gone for and been happy with.
Thank you in advance!!
Hi there! I had LB mastectomy in feb 2022 and opted NOT to have recon. I must admit living with only one boob is a pain in that this glorious summer, hahaha, has meant I’ve been unable to wear vest tops. I note with v neck dresses my mastectomy bra does look a bit obvious as the prostheses can move a bit! It also took a while to level both sides as I lost 2 stone during chemo (April to July) and the false one was bigger than the real thing! I then had to get a bra filler to go in the other side! Bit of a joke getting undressed at night, lucky my husband has a sense of humour! I wish you well and that the implant is a huge success and you’re super happy with it! It’s definitely great for self esteem!
I had a RB mastectomy in Feb 23, didn't get recon (last minute change of mind) though I've always been quite flat chested. As times gone on I feel I think less self conscious and more wanting to get my strength and fitness back. I think it's taken me a while to get my head around the whole thing. I had to rethink.my clothes. I feel bit better now as time gone on. Wish you well with it all x
Hi, I had left mastectomy but had breast reduction at same time on right side. Implant immediate but 15 sessions of radio followed too. I was told there was a risk of the implant needing to be replaced but 14 months on i still have it.
There has been some slight contraction but not significant. I've seen my surgeon twice & they are happy so far.
It was a risk of took & it paid of so far as no further surgery. The end result is pretty good cosmetically but I've put a little weight on and my natural boob has got a bit bigger, but not a big problem in the scheme of things
Good luck with the surgery x
Hi it was complicated as the first time they were pretty sure It was not in my lymph nodes but that turned not to be the case. Implant was done but then I had to have chemo and radiotherapy which ruined the implant.
