I had lumpectomy last week and looking for what to expect post op please
Hi kaylardy
You will have a meeting with your surgeon one your results are back to discuss them and what the next steps are. You may need a second operation if your surgeon didn't get everything, but that's doesn't happen very often. If you need chemo your surgeon will pass you on to a oncologist who will decide what type of chemo they will give you and how many cycles of chemo you will receive. You will then have between 5 and 15 sessions of radiotherapy if your medical team feel you need it.
Wishing you the best of luck with your post-op appointment.
Best wishes

As daisy said it very much depends on what your results are. You may get offered an oncotype test before they decide on best treatment. I did this and ended up having chemo therapy - 4 cycles ec and three cycles docetaxel. Im also halfway through twenty sessions of radiotherapy.
All the best to you
Oncotype test can give a guide as to whether chemotherapy would be beneficial as treatment in my case to reduce risk of recurrence. Done by lab in USA. Score of 15 or lower no benefit between 15 and 30 it's a discussion over 30 definite benefit. I got 29 so for me and other half it was a no brainer to have the chemo. Total shock as hadn't expected it at all particularly as they said they had got all the tumour in op and lymph was clear.
some swelling and some tingling annoying sensations in arm, do exercises and watch for banding, my breats was very swollen but no obvious place that had pocket of seroma so left it, its still a tad swollen 3 months down the line but the arm is better, still occasional twings and twangs
I already know mine is an aggressive cancer and can reoccur, so will be having phesgo injections from cycle 4 of chemo for 18 cycles every 3 week, mine has gone into 2 lymph nodes which is the lump I actually felt I have not been able to feel main lump, so chemo 1st then surgery, then radiotherapy, chemo I should finish at end of October, so don't know yet dates for surgery etc x
Hi Teeny1978. I realise your post is a few weeks back. Hope you’re doing ok. I also have aggressive cancer, triple positive. So I’ve had 12 weekly chemo with phesgo every 3 weeks and also zometa to prevent it spreading to the bones. I now have surgery schedule pd for 5th and will have to wait for pathology to find out what’s next. The chemo and phesgo have shrunk my tumour amazingly. I hope your treatment is going well. Xxx
Hi the oncotype test is not for HER negative cancers, so don't worry, you haven't been missed out as you’re HER+. Your diagnosis and treatment plan sounds similar to mine (click on my name for my story) and I'm now 2 years post surgery and doing well. Best wishes
