Anastrazole - memory and tiredness

Hi

I have been taking Anastrazole for just over a year now and had thought I had been fortunate I’m not experiencing many of the side effects. However I have noticed my memory is not what it should be, I can forget common words and often entire conversations. I also get much more tired than I used to - can fall asleep on the sofa from 8.30pm onwards although I also wake in the night and can’t get back to sleep.

I was starting to worry about dementia however I am only 57 and therefore wondering if anyone else has experienced this and it is more likely side effects from the tablets.

Thank you

  • Hi,I'm no expert, but these are common symptoms of menopause. I wonder if it could be that, rather than the tablets, especially after being on them for quite a while now? Good luck xx

  • Hi  , sounds all too familiar to me. I’d gone through the menopause reasonably happily at 50, went on Anastrozole at 59, and described it after a year as like a super charged menopause, far far worse than my ‘natural’ one. In fact the effects were such that I never got back to work full time and in the end retired earlier than planned as I just couldn’t cope. My GP did blood tests to check if my fatigue was caused by something else but they all came back normal. I think (but I’m not a medic) that the effects are from very low oestrogen, and this seems to affect some of us more than others. Sorry you’re finding this but have no helpful suggestions other than getting your GP to do blood tests to check for other possible causes. The fatigue and brain fog are recognised side effects of hormone therapy. Not to mention the aches and pains! Not nice but I keep popping the pills to (hopefully) keep the beast at bay!
You could also consider asking to swap to a different hormone treatment as some here have done.
Wishing you well, love and hugs, HFxx

  • I'm 55 and exactly the same but with raging hot sweats too.... It's horrible & feel really stupid sometimes

I had gone through menopause before taking these but feel worse that during that time.

    Really feel for you x

  • Totally agree with you, worse than menopause, I forgot to mention the aches, I guess I have got used to it but feel 155 rather than 55! X
