Any ideas?! I weighed around 9 stone/57 kg prior to chemo in April 2022. Weight dropped drastically by nearly 2 stone as I was off my food during chemo. Since being told I’m ‘technically clear’ of cancer in Nov last yr, I now find my weight is rapidly approaching 10 stone! From size 8 to 12 in a yr! I walk briskly with dog for an hour every morning, eat a healthy breakfast after walk, sandwich lunch (no crisps, and very sparing on chocs and home made cake), alcohol only on Fri, sat, sun night, so WHY am I putting it on?! So disappointed with tight fitting clothes..Lol!

  • Hi, sorry to hear this, but I know how you feel. It could be age / menopause. I certainly started to gain weight after the menopause. I’m on Anastrazole and I don’t think that has helped. Looking forward to hearing what others might say xx

Thnx for your response..it could well be Letrozole similar to Anastrazole! Never thought of that! I am however through menopause so I’ll just battle on and cut  down on sweet stuff and any other luxuries!! BW to you! X

  • I hope you succeed, it’s not at all easy as you get older……If it’s any help (!) I’m trying hard to lose some weight put on gradually over the years, not helped at all by bc and Letrozole changed to Tamoxifen. I’ve begun ok, have lost 2 kg now over the last couple of months but haven’t yet noticed it around my middle! What I’ve done is cut the carbs in one meal a day (usually dinner but sometimes lunch) and eat lots more vegetables. For example, tonight’s dinner was sea bass with carrot, broccoli, mushrooms and tomatoes (not a huge amount of each, but quite filling. My trouble is always my sweet tooth!

  • Oooh … that sounds a nice dinner. 2kg you say? Ok, I’ll give this a go starting tomorrow. I know what you mean by the sweet tooth thing. I’ve started to keep a stock of those ‘Options’  instant hot chocolate sachets in the cupboard for this purpose. The Belgian chocolate one is quite potent. About 40 calories each, and can help sometimes. Xx

Thank you! Really appreciate you're ideas, never had to diet before but I get that it's sitting there and food maybe the issue.  I will cut down on carbs and as you suggest eat more veg, (maybe less meat too!). Good luck with your cut downs, having a sweet tooth is a b!!

  • That Options hot choc sounds a great idea for the sweet tooth fix,  !

  • My weight has drastically increased in the last couple of months.  I’ve been on AIs for over three years (all three types) and Letrozole seems to have put the most weight on.   I read a story that said it causes your fat cells to draw in more fat!   I’ve been off Letrozole for 6 weeks so  hoping the weight will come off.  I’ve lost 3 lbs over the past two weeks.  Tried to cut down on carbs and not drink wine in the week so will continue with that but my huge belly is still there.

    Just keep going!

It’s a battle, not helped by healthy food going up in price! Thnx all for the feedback! So frustrating knowing that we’re doing all we can and it’s like flogging the proverbial dead horse!! Haha!

  • Hi all, I started this new way of approaching food today. I had a decent bowl of  porridge with a fair amount of stewed allotment fruits. I had two slices of dark rye bread with a tiny amount of homemade jam ( no butter) and an actimel yogurt for lunch. Went to allotment, and ate some ripened soft fruits as I was picking a couple of bowlfuls for home. For tea, chopped up a courgette, some celery, tomatoes and a couple of mushrooms and put in frying pan with a little olive oil. Cracked a couple of eggs on top. Will have my options hot chocolate later.
Have been moving around all day. I sort of feel a bit thinner, but I can’t be. Definitely don’t feel as sluggish though. Day two tomorrow!! Xx

  • Yes, less sluggish and a bit more flexibility was what I noticed first, and maybe being able to easily fasten a leather belt means perhaps it has had a slight effect on my waist? Hoping so anyway!

    Keep going, lovely comrades!
