Hi, I had triple positive breast cancer, done 6 TCHP, followed by a wide local excision and a sentinel node biopsy. I got my results back yesterday. Clear margins and no node involvement. however I did have residual disease left in what they pulled out. But it was 6.7cm mass down to 15mm. So I had a good response.
but because it didn’t kill it all should I be concerned seeing as it’s no longer in me and there was clear margins?
At the moment the treatment plan is to carry on with phesgo and radiotherapy soon. But I imagine when I see my oncologist he’s going to recommend Kadcyla. But is Kadcyla necessary if they have removed the mass? Sorry if it’s a silly question I’m just trying to get my head around it. Can you opt not to have Kadcyla or is too risky not to take it? How much does it reduce the risk of recurrence compared to just phesgo?
Hi jj123
i had same scenario. 95% positive result of chemo. However as 5% residual left… clear margins no node involvement they said kadcyla for 14 cycles. I finished it last June… 2022. I trusted them and went through it as didn’t want to risk anything. This is a very clever treatment with great results. Hope your ok x
I too had 12 lots of chemo which shrunk my 2cm grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma, HER2 positive, but during my op they removed 11 mm of residual cancer, but it had not spread to lymph nodes.
I was shocked when after radiotherapy they said I would have 14 lots of Kadcyla. 11 months!!
It makes me very windy, tender stomach, upset or constipated, sometimes tired, and a very dry mouth all the time, I drink loads of water and live on soup!
Its been great for my waist line. I went back to full time art teaching after 2 lots of Kadcyla and find being absorbed is a great way of forgetting you are feeling a bit rotten at times. My feet and hands have peripheral neuropathy too, so good fitting shoes are important.
I take a Colpermin pill every morning before food, its for irritable bowel syndrome and does seem to help. Boots sell it. I have just had no 7 Kadcyla and my body is more able to tolerate the treatment. My consultant said once this is done he hopes not to see me ever again!! I am 62, let's hope he is right!! I think you just have to go with it and hope it works. Good luck.xx
