So I am again panicking, have just come up to bed and there is a dark patch on my tena lady, went loo and it is definitely blood. It's more than spotting I would say but I think its stopped now. What do I do? Do I call my BCN or my GP? I've been on Tamoxifen about 7 months and terrified that I have something sinister going on. I'm trying to be calm and rational but.....
Has anyone else had a similar thing happen?
By the way I'm 51 and post menopausal.
Thank you x
Hi, I’d call your BCN and ask for advice. I spotted a bit when first in Letrozole and aged 73 I was DEFINITELY post menopausal. My BCN reassured me it was ok if it just happened and then stopped. But I think you need a proper professional opinion. Don’t panic!

Hi ItsJustMe
I've just had an appointment in the last month at the Post Menopausal Bleeding Clinic. When I went for my usual smear test, I'd mentioned bleeding and was referred to my doctor to carry out the smear. She then referred me to the clinic, which as she said "it has its own name because it is so common!".
I had to allow an afternoon for the test (although it didn't take that long - about an hour and a half with gaps in between).
The nurses did an ultrasound scan inside (rather than over the belly) and then the doctor looked at the scan and did another quick examination. He asked a few questions, one being what colour is the blood? Normal colour blood is a good sign apparently. It turned out that it was vaginitis due to the anastrozole I had been on. (I'm 6 years post BC) and stopped the tablets last year, but the tablets obviously have this effect. He showed me the scans of my womb and said it was very healthy and exactly what it should look like. So, that was VERY reassuring.
If you want to put your mind fully at rest, speak to your GP who'll probably refer you to the Post Menopausal bleeding clinic if they can't immediately see what the issue is.
Best Wishes, Lesley
I had NO IDEA that it was so common that there are special clinics for that! You learn something new every day! Thank you lesleyhelen

Thanks Lesley, that is reassuring, and interesting to know there is a specific clinic. I'll see what my BCN says and go from there, though I guess if there is such a clinic in my area she may refer me there. Its bad enough having your boobs pulled about and just starting to get over all that and now it's downstairs with an issue!
Hi ItsJustMe , I had spotting a few years ago (I’m 63 and have been on Anastrozole for nearly 5 years), I phoned my GP, saw her next day, she examined me and also referred me to local hospital for ultrasound, had that a few days later. All ok, no real explanation but suspect Anastrozole was the culprit. Like someone mentioned I had an internal ultrasound (they use something called a wand but I can think of other names!!!). Have had these before when I had uterine polyps. Not as horrible as it sounds, haven’t ever found it painful even with Anastrozole sandpaper fannie effects - sorry stole that from Anna12345 who coined the phrase on another thread! Anyway have not had a repeat thankfully but always get any post menopausal bleeding investigated.
Just to add, a friend who’s on tamoxifen had a lot of bleeding, not just spotting and also post menopausal, had it all investigated and feared the worst - all fine too, but of course a worrying time whilst having all the investigations.
Hope you can get some medical advice soon, it’s another bother and worry which you could well do without. Love and hugs, HFxx
Thank you HappyFeet1, it's always so reassuring to hear others have been in the same or similar situations. Unfortunately my BCN hasn't yet called, hopefully she will tomorrow I know they are really busy. Just such a lot going on right now, I'm actually waiting for genetic testing results to see if I'm carrying cancer genes, especially as my mum had ovarian cancer, so my latest thing is just reminding me of her first signs of the cancer. I don't want my lady bits pulled around but I guess that's our path now eh?!
Thanks for taking the time to respond, and that goes to everyone who responds on this forum, it's quite a club we are part of x
Hi ItsJustMe , yes a club we’d much rather not join! But a great place all the same, and I really value the mutual support here. I’d think about phoning your GP tomorrow morning? Sorry you’ve got lots of other stuff going on too. And I agree about having enough of being poked and prodded! But better to get advice and investigations if necessary. Xx
