Hi, I am aware I’m likely to lose my hair with some aggressive chemo in a few months time. I am looking to reduce the distress so am considering microblading my brows and possibly permanent eyeliner to make up for losing my lashes. Has anyone else has this? Any advice possibly ? How have others managed coping with their hair loss?

  • Hi there, my eyebrows are quite light and faint so this wasn't so much of an issue for me, but I lost my hair. I didn't like the idea of a scarf, as I felt it “labelled” me so I went for a wig.  I had a fitting with two lovely ladies recommended by the hospital and was super happy with it. I chose a different style and those who weren't aware of my diagnosis just thought it was a new hair style. I loved it, it was comfortable and talk about easy to maintain.  I hope you find a way to cope that works for you, it's undoubtedly one of the distressing elements of the treatment. Best wishes

    • Thank you for responding and for your tips. I agree I am worried about this happening probably more than I should be, as don’t want to lose my identity during this journey. I’m the type of person that don’t leave the house with mascara so when I look in the mirror I want to see me, not a cancer victim looking back at me. I know this sounds shallow with life and death matters facing me right now but it matters that I remain being me throughout all this .
  • Hi

    1. I get up everyday and put my make up on it makes me feel normal , I had my eyebrows tattooed just incase I lost them . I wear scarfs that match the colour of my outfits and nice earrings I have a wig which I have worn once .
I have been told I look glam by the chemo team and my friends so you do what’s right for you and makes you feel like you . Good luck with your journey xx
  • I was exactly the same and went for microblading. Had to get oncologists consent but I had no problems. As someone who had dark long hair and eyebrows... the thought of no eyebrows somehow made me feel awful even with the rest of the shit going on. It's like the cancer takes away your femininity; your breasts, your hair, your skin, your nails... the steroids make you bloat and I didn't want to give up my eyes too! Very happy I microbladed but actually, I haven't lost my hair. 4 cycles of EC and 1 paxitaxel/1 Phesgo in and I still have hair on my head and eyebrows. I have lost a lot, but I did have a lot, so still have a covering of hair. I am using the cold cap and it seems to be working. So don't lose heart. It isn't a given that your hair will go.

  • Don’t forget that there’s a charity who can help with special workshops for anyone who has cancer, look them up on google; called ‘Look Good Feel Better’ and if you can get into one, you get a goody bag and lots of helpful ideas.

  • I always have microblading done due to over plucking of eyebrows when younger. So before I started to have chemotherapy in June I went to top the micro blading up and I am so pleased I had them done ,

  • I did micro blading post chemo. Excellent results, so much so everyone I’ve told wanted to try it in my friend group.! Defined my face and gave me back some control in the whirlwind of treatment!
