I’ve been taking Letrozole for five days and the joints in my hands are so painful. I don’t think I can keep taking it. I’m taking it as my breast cancer is oestrogen fed. Feeling really down just now.
Hi NickyJane welcome to the forum and I am so sorry to hear how you are feeling. Letrozole is a good drug that does the job it is supposed to do, however it does have side effects which most of us sadly know only too well. Unfortunately not taking it at all at this point is not an option, unless you can have a further conversation with your Oncologist and they can maybe change from Letrozole to one of the other drugs in the same group. However, they do all tend to have issues when it comes to joint pains but some are more tolerable than others so always worth asking.
I can appreciate that having this pain will drag you down but keep that chin up. WE are here for you whenever you need us to be and the helpline is just a call away if you wanted to talk with someone directly on 08088080000.
Sending some hugs your way for now. xd
Hi NickyJane, What brand are you taking? I take accord as this is the closest to the original drug femara. There is a thread about this, worth a read. It's noted that some brands give different side effects. I take mine in the evening and have achy legs but they ease once I start moving. It may be worth speaking to your BC nurse about the side effects, I don;t know if they ease with time, I've been taking mine for about 7 months now x
Hi, in addition to what Granny59 and Gardenia have said, I have read that it can take a few weeks for the side effects to settle down, so it might be worth persevering with it. When I get aches in my joints (mostly knees) I find they improve a lot if I walk. That seems counter intuitive, but as long as I keep doing more than around 10,000 steps a day, the joint pain tends to stay away. But do talk to your Nurse or Oncologist to see what they suggest. Best wishes
