Hi, I have bought a selection of stretchy turbans/bandanas which I wear most of the time but now we are in the middle of a heatwave I wondered if anyone knew what might be cooler to wear. I'm finding that I feel like taking them off at home when I get too hot but don't really feel comfortable exposing my nearly bald head, even if only to myself and husband. As for my wig, that was already slightly uncomfortable even in cooler weather so that is living on its stand currently.
Hi Angie463
I know what you mean. I did not lose all my hair but it did thin all over and I had a wig and scarves on standby. My hair was at it's worst during last years heatwave. I did wear my wig a couple of times (trying to get used to it) but I found it far too hot and uncomfortable.
The lady at my hospital who does the wigs had options of a thinner hair topper but I never got to that stage. I did look for cooler scarves at the time.
I wonder if a light material is an option chiffon type, bamboo, or even just 100% cotton.
I would think anything synthetic wouldn't be so good.
I just did a search for " summer chiffon chemo scarf " and some really pretty light weight ones came up. Might be worth a look on line. Alternatively your hospital may have a volunteer who comes in with headwear. At my hospital there was a visiting wig lady and hairdresser every Wednesday with a Macmillan volunteer who bought in supplies of scarves etc. It may be worth asking you CNS if this happens at yours.
Another idea when its really hot is to maybe pop the scarf in the fridge for a while so when you use it, it's nice and cool?
Hope this helps a bit. I found the hair loss hard and it seemed to me at the time that there maybe more options in the colder weather with woolly hats/beanies.
Jane
Hi Angie463, I've ordered some from Anna Bandana who I found on a Macmillan leaflet. The others I have from here are great so hope these are too.

Good luck keeping cool x
Hello,
Try bamboo caps. I bought three basic colours blue, pink, cherry red, and matched head bands around the cap to whatever I was wearing. As silly as it sounds, it was good to make an effort to coordinate with my clothes. The caps aren't cheap but cool in summer and warm in the cold. They were also recommended to wear under wigs if wigs had a synthetic lining. I chose not to have a wig as my normal hair was blond, straight and fine so a wig would have looked equally obvious. However, I had so many compliments about the caps and headbands. I bought very inexpensive bands but they made them in so many patterns and colours.
I wore the caps for nearly a year as my hair fell out after 14 days but didn't restart until after I'd finished radiotherapy. Then it took a few more weeks to grow to a length I felt comfortable with.
I really recommend you try at least one of these. I had to contend with some very hot days.
Hope your treatments progress well. Karen
