Hi everyone, hope everyone is doing ok.  I've just got my date for my mastectomy, I'll be having an immediate reconstruction with an implant.  I know I won't be able to drive for 4 weeks but after the first two weeks I can be a passenger in the rear so just wondered if anyone can recommed a seatbelt pillow to give a bit of protection?  I'm also wondering about cushions for sleeping with to make things more comfortable with a drain, any recs? My last question, I am a 38f, I've been looking at post op bras that zip up at the front but what size do I get? I guess I'll be the same size after the op as the other breast is being left alone, do post op bras come in my size, they all look a bit small to me?  Any other tips also welcomed Slight smile

  • A set-up of a V-shaped pillow on top of two normal pillows was a great help for me for sleeping. For car rides, you know those neck support cushions, really soft, that people sometimes take along on flights? Small enough to take with you, and can sit comfortably around a breast, may be worth looking into.

As for bras, as far as I am aware you just get your usual size.Is it possible that the ones you are looking at appear small due to an optical illusion to do with the design?

My hospital has a dedicated person who deals exclusively with bras and wigs. If no such person is available where you are, I would check with the breast nurse or the nurse attached to the surgeon, and possibly with a Macmillan nurse or even with Maggie's, preferably face to face so you can have a proper conversation and get advice that is tailored to you.

  • Thanks GreyCats, I've found a shop on Etsy that does all sorts of post op stuff including heart pillows so I might make some purchases there and speak to the BCN when I go for my pre op.  Thanks!
