Just been put on these  .What are your thoughts ladies are the side effects tolerable or are they a horror story .Would love to hear your thoughts

  • People's experience will vary. If you get to the stage of wanting to give up though - talk to your Breast Cancer Nurse, GP or consultant first, as there are options to help you through. I hated the little pill until around seven months in, and then something just clicked, and I love it now for the protection (hopefully) that it might give me for many years to come. Always a very personal, individual decision, but I'm glad I've stuck with it.

  • Side effects for me were feeling sick (first 2 months), hair thinning (first 3-4 months), blurred vision (but optician said eye health ok), sleepless nights (switched to taking it in the morning), vaginal dryness (vagifem prescription works), and mood swings, irritability but learnt to live with those. And hot flushes, but not often and not bothersome. Still keeping an eye out for any other problems, and will see how it goes.

  • Only on day two time will tell .I am being positive Thumbsup

  • It kicks in quite quickly though, think I read somewhere that within a couple of days your oestrogen levels will drop by about 70%. The anticipation of the side effects can be worse sometimes, I remember I was quite reluctant to start mine. But for me it was difficult at first but has got easier.

  • Hi Webb,  nearly 4 months in for me….all ok..early on I took one first thing in morning on empty stomach and got indigestion later on in day…can’t say if it was tablet or not..so take after breakfast and fine.  Only side effect is joint stiffness…I hobble first thing in morning and down the stairs but ok once I get going …had a bit of joint pain too in hands…am upping collagen as that might help but so far so good.  The only annoying thing is getting them out of the blister packs with neuropathic fingers!

  • Hi

I am 18 months into Hormone Therapy. For the first 9 months I was on generic Anastrozole which did give me a lot of side effects even though I stuck to the Accord brand which is supposed to be most like the original drug Arimidex. The NHS will prescribe generic Anastrozole first as its much cheaper.

After a 4 week break to check they were side effects my GP agreed to prescribe Arimidex even though its more expensive after input from the breast care nurse and I have been much better on this original drug.

I have some joint stiffness but exercise really helps and the brain fog etc has definately gone. Of course my body is now coping with virtually no estrogen with all that comes with that but I can say for me so far it's manageable and I'm working full time and keep pretty physically active. Only another 3.5years to go .....

  • Thanks all you lovel ladies  .I have along way to go .Have read all the side eff and thought Soboh what .we will have to grin and bear it but I am sure it won't be a breeze.Time will tell thanks Pray
