I had a breast cancer diagnosis Jan 2021 at age 52, mastectomy March 2021, EC-T chemo May-Sept 21 with chemical menopause, Herceptin July 21-August 22. I was started on Letrozole Oct 21, changed to Anastrazole in July 22 then Exemestane Sept 22 until now.
April 22 I had a small bleed and a week of cramping off and on. A trans-vaginal ultrasound found a small 1cm intramural fibroid in the uterus fundus but nothing to explain the symptoms, womb lining nice and thin at 1mm.
A year later in April 23 the same thing happened, but it has continued and the cramping is pretty continuous now with spotting. Another t/v u/s showed I now have thickening of the womb lining to 9mm on the fundus only. The fibroid is unchanged.
I'm expecting a date for a hysteroscopy in the next 3 weeks. The lovely MacMillan nurse here told me that that Exemestane can cause thickening of the womb lining, but I don't know if that would be the whole womb lining rather than just a patch. The nurse also said if this is uterine cancer, it would be unrelated to the original breast cancer, but possibly related to the treatment for it.
I suppose where I'm going with this is to ask whether anyone else has had thickening of the womb lining and cramping/spotting while on Exemestane. I'm clutching at straws while I wait for the hysteroscopy and then for the results. It's going to be a looooong month ahead.
Thank you.
Oh no, how frustrating. Are you able to retype an abbreviated version?
I will do it again I’m getting ready to go to physio - we are very similar with our BC diagnosis and drugs xx
Hi I was diagnosed in Jan 21 had mastectomy in March (with implant) I was started straight away on Letrazole then about 6 months ago changed to Anastrazole. The aches n pains have become unbearable so I’m going back to oncology to see what the next stage is. It seems whatever they give you has awful side effects. I had surgery again in January this year because the radiotherapy damaged the implant (long story). So it’s like I e had a mastectomy twice on the same breast. I’m going to physio and seeing a Feldenkrais specialist to help with my movement. I kinda had things done a different way as they were sure I did not have C in my lymph nodes. Turned out 7 of 14 cancerous. By then I already had the implant!!! So 5 months EC and PAC chemo then radiotherapy then start all over again!!! I need to rush off so sorry it’s brief - all the best xxx Jgau
Oh man, that sounds rubbish. We're the same time scale aren't we? Are you cancer-free now? Letrozole and Anastrazole made me hurt, but Exemestane was better for me. The side effects can be different for different people. You could definitely ask about it.
They wouldn't do my implant at the time of the mastectomy because they couldn't get lymph node biopsies and thought I might need radiotherapy which messes up implants. It turned out I didn't need radiotherapy in the end and my lymph nodes were clear, so now, 2 years later, I'm having another fight to get an appointment booked to discuss reconstruction. Or I was until this. I'm putting that particular fight on hold until I know what's going on.
I've been cramping with random spotting for the past nearly 7 weeks, and today I have lower back pain as well. I'm fed up with this. I really thought that stopping periods was the only good thing to come out of it, and now it feels as if the wicked witch is not dead after all. And maybe it's more sinister. Because it's constant cramping, it's not something I can forget about.
Hi yes it’s been a long haul. Initially they seemed sure that it wasn’t in my lymph nodes as I had had scans but when they did the mastectomy and implant they took 3 nodes 2 of which were cancerous. So I had to go back for full axillary. Then when I was told I needed chemo and radiotherapy I knew it would damage the implant. A professor at a London hospital said “well we can just pop another one in”!!!! The surgery to get it out and replace took 3 1/3 hours with 12 weeks recovery. I’m sorry you are having this cramping and I hope I don’t get offered a drug which will do the same. I’m having a mammogram on the other breast tonight. They say I am cancer free but who knows! Will go back to discuss your symptoms?
Unbelievable you could have had the implant and I should not have (the first time anyway)!!!
That's good news that you're cancer free, but what a hassle.
I don't know whether the Exemestane is causing the cramping or not. That's why I came here to find out whether it's happened to anyone else, but nobody else is answering. I have a horrible suspicion that there's more nasty stuff going on that isn't the Exemestane. I had very few other symptoms from it actually. For me, it was the best of the bunch.
EXEMESTANE - does anyone experience cramping on this drug?
