Good evening everyone
I’m 7 days post chemo (Docetaxel, Carboplatin, Pertuzumab and Tratuzumab) and I finished my Filgrastim injections last night.
I lost all taste within 24hrs, in the last few days whatever I eat tastes foul (greasy).
I’ve tried porridge (with water) pineapple, sweetcorn, non cream veg soup, seeded bread, I’m so hungry but can’t eat
Has anyone found anything that tastes ok?
Hi V1972
I didn't have the same combination as you but found that anything that was very spicy like curry or chilli tasted as normal.

Thanks Latchbrook
I’ve not tried anything spicy just yet as my mouth has been sore, when it’s a bit better I’ll give a curry a go
Thanks F1 petrolhead, the thought of anything diary turns my stomach, I tried porridge with oat milk yesterday and couldn’t eat it
I’ve just forced myself to eat a banana, I’m hoping tomorrow is easier.
Hi V1972, I can so sympathise as I was on same treatment and this one one of my biggest SE’s. You may find during your ‘good’ week your taste gets a bit better as the cells renew. I had weird cravings. Rich tea biscuits tasted okay, I craved cheese and onion crisps, Mr Kiplings apple pies, curries and cottage pies worked for me and cool foods like salad, cucumbers and bananas worked and could manage white toast. Warm ribena was a favourite drink. I also took ice cubes in a flask to suck whilst having the chemo to mitigate the effect. I managed Rice Krispies for breakfast but milk had to be cold…
Thanks Lifeslikethat, you are right in the last week I’ve cautiously tried more foods and been ok although things definitely still don’t taste quite right.
Round 2 on Wednesday and not looking forward at all to the SE’s but it’s got to be done.
Oh I feel for you! Food issues made me so miserable, especially on Docetaxel. Mashed potato with gravy worked for me for a while. Also chicken thighs fried in a tiny bit of olive oil with S&P and mixed herbs, salty and sweet popcorn, ice cream. Check with your medical team first, but a multivitamin tablet might be a good idea while you're struggling to get enough nutrients. Also, if you're losing a lot of weight, ask for a referral to a dietician, and they may prescribe a food supplement like Ensure for you. Finally, let your team know as they may reduce the dose for your next chemo. xx
