Hi, just wondering … does anyone have experience of having a blood test at the Christie. Do you have to book an appointment, or is it a walk-in service? Many thanks

  • You can book the Christie bloods closer to home service on the website -

It’s really easy. Just type that in search bar then allow third party cookies, pick your closest branch and book a slot wjtg your email

  • Thank you for replying Hel39. I live 60 miles away from the Christie, so that won’t apply to me. Also, this would be for the Trak-er trial, so the vials are immediately sent to the lab for forwarding to the USA - I’m transferrring to the Christie from the Marsden as it is closer, but still a bit of a trek.

  • Ah ok. If you put cotton lane in your satnav, it’s free parking practically over the road for three hours. I went every day for radiation there.

    good luck x

  • Thanks. I’ll likely be going by train .. so another thing is finding out which bus gets there from Manchester station!! Might be too far for a taxi. I’m just wondering if I need to book an advance appointment for the blood room too. Hoping to speak to one of the research nurses today … once I’ve done it .. will be ok as I’ll know what to expect.

  • Ah right, I think you need the 142 for east didsbury.

if you are travelling a bit you might be able to speak to macmillan about getting help with costs- attendance allowance or something. I live pretty close so have never had ti look into anything like that but it might be worth it.

  • Thank you for that - I’ll Google the times. I will drive there  - as you said - there is free parking

  • Hi, it's a bit of a random comment maybe, but is there no chance you could be transferred to the new Christie center at Macclesfield? Depending on where you live, it could be a bit closer than Manchester and save a bit of time? I appreciate there could be other more specific reasons you are going to Manchester, i.e. to see a certain specialist, but thought there's no harm to mention it! There are plenty of trains into Macclesfield too (on the London line) and I think there is a bus service from Macc station to the hospital.

  • Hi, thank. You for your suggestion. I live ion the border of North Yorkshire and Lancashire, so Manchester is closer.

  • The TRAK-ER study does have funds to cover your travel costs. Maybe ask the research nurse about it?

  • Thank you. Yes, I did ask, and they said that no one else is claiming it. But as you say, it is in the literature that you are given.
