Hi all
Is Docetaxel really hard?
I am so worried about my skin and nails.
I am due to start it soon, anyone have any advice?
Thanks
Lots and lots of water, move around as much as you can but don't over do it. Naps are your friend. Stock up on tissues - I lost my eyelashes and the slightest breeze, bit of dust made my eyes run like faucets. Same with nose I'm afraid - gross but temporary. Nails took a while to go and it's not painful. Looks ugly but nurses said stick on replacements were fine to use.
I felt fine first couple days, then started feeling crappy. Had filgastrim injections and they perked me up. Most of the time it was the exhaustion that did me in.
Taste buds are now your enemy - I can taste sweet and citrus, avocado makes me want to barf and I love it normally. So experiment and batch cook when you feel ok cause eating regularly helps. I currtly eat a little every couple of hours - take the anti- nausea tablets if you need them. And fibre - you will probably need more, orange juice with bits is my go to although I did overdo it once which wasn't pretty
Moisturise often and your skin should be fine, don't forget your head. Oh and you will be more sensitive to the sun so cover up and hats.
I hope it goes well
Than you, I am shaving mine tonight, the cold cap did not work for me. It was waist length so it will take years to grow back if it ever does.
My oncology nurse said dark polish does help, protects nails from u.v so will try that.
Good luck with everything!
I found that actually getting water under my nails made them painful and appear to separate more . So I used baby wipes and sanitiser for washing hands . In the bath and shower I wore surgical gloves with elastic bands ( not too tight ) around my wrists. This stopped the majority of the water going under the nails . My nails are now growing back but interestingly the half moons are missing at the bottom of the nail on some nails !
I hated Docetaxel but when I received the histology after surgery - complete resolution - it made it all worthwhile .
