Private CT scan?

Hi All

Just wondering if anyone has had a CT done privately? I have had IV chemo, single mastectomy/lymph node removal, radiotherapy and 8 courses of capecitabine. I have just had the final call from my oncologist (Just completed the final course) and he said that they don't do any scans just the yearly mammogram and he will call in 12 months time.

I'm not a worrier but for my own piece of mind I would have felt better having a scan. I had to have capecitabine as a precaution in case there were any 'floaty bits' (Their words not mine) and just feel like a scan would confirm that there aren't any 'floaty bits'.

I know I can call the breast care nurses with any issues but I haven't bothered them during treatment and don't want to come across as paranoid!

Any advice would be greatly received!!!!

Thanks in advance Grimacing

If you can afford it, then go for it! I pay privately for eye treatment as waiting times with NHS are just not an option when you have eye pain through glaucoma and macula issues. Also it's good yo get instant results to out your mind at ease. I wish you well x

  • I don't know how easy it is to get one,  and I'd say that there is the radiation issue (2 years worth?),  and the fact that an MRI might give more detail.  I had a private one about 8 years ago with Spire, which have me tingling in my legs (PN?), a horrible taste in my mouth and I felt unwell after.

  • I know how you feel. I have also asked for scans but been told ‘no evidence to suggest a scan warranted and over exposure to radiation not recommended in term of best clinical practise’. However of course someone will always take money for a scan. It’s a hard one as I worry that whilst there is no evidence - has enough evidence been looked for??? But then do you just keep on having scans as the worry of ‘floaty bits’ might always be there?

I don’t know the best way to proceed bit I have just listened to a very interesting podcast that has talked about the effectiveness of Capecitabine for ‘mopping up’ floaty bits. (They didn’t call it that) but to use your words.

  • Thank you for your reply and that's basically the same as I was told. Decided not to go ahead and what will be will be!

    Thanks again
