Hi everyone
So last Monday 27th March, after being told by my consultant that my op would be scheduled for approx 5-6 wks due to dr strikes, I’m guessing I could expect to be given a date at beg of May.
However I received one of those wonderful NoCaller ID calls that we all love on Monday informing me that my Operation has been scheduled for next Tuesday 11th April in the afternoon. I was totally shocked
Don’t get me wrong I’m happy to get it sorted but it just knocked me for six.
Pre assessment is being done in two halves so this morn my nurse is calling to ask all the questions and then tomorrow it’s an in person appointment at 9 at hosp.
I have my 60th birthday on 18th and have had to cancel plans for next week. I know that’s first world problems but it’s all a control thing for me as I like ‘all my ducks in a row’ and if going on this journey has taught me anything it’s you have to relinquish control over things. I’ve been like a tap due to stopping HRT after 18 years and busting out tears randomly is new to me. My emotions are a law to themselves and I feel like I’m on a rollercoaster and I want to get off NOW please
My surgery is to remove lumps from both breasts and then followed up by radiotherapy and anti oestrogen tabs. I’m so scared re surgery, worried that they won’t make the margins as I have knat bites r boobs but they’re still ‘my knat bites’. I think possibly when the consultant mentioned the timescale and dr strikes and I said oh what if I bring you some doughnuts and sweets and we all laughed
he actually took me at my word??
I have so many questions like do I come out same day if op in in afternoon? will the margins be met? Will I get through this? Will my hubby still love me? ( I actually said this to him as I was busting out a couple of tears and he just said why wouldn’t I? And hugged me. Think he’s a keeper after 40 years)
Anyway I’m off to sort myself out
Good luck to you all

Hi, I am 9 days post op, the heart shaped pillow is a must, I also got a seat belt cushion from etsy which is really good, I was shocked at how much bruising and how breast looked at first but swelling and bruising so much better now and by end of 1st week it looked so much better. I found doing the exercises really helped and using the arm helped during the day, I found doing jigsaws was a good way to keep the affected arm moving. The first week I found it difficult to sleep as not used to sleeping on my back but used to it now. I also had op in afternoon and discharged home at 7.30pm, good luck with your op and recovery
You'll be fine. I had surgery on one side and radiotherapy six months ago, now on anti-hormone tabs. It is all a bit strange because it is a new experience, but they know what they're doing. What I learned was that 'worry' and 'what ifs' had no impact on the outcome. Good luck.
Hi Lynn. I feel the same. Recently diagnosed and have appointment with surgeon today. I’m nervous but also want it asap. The waiting and the step by step is very difficult for me. I want to know everything now. I know they are doing these surgeries all the time and we will recover and be back on our feet before we know it. Best of luck. Look forward to hearing how you go. X
Hi Dottykc
I had pre assessment part 2 this morn and then got a call to say the operation has been cancelled due to dr strikes! They knew about the strikes when they booked me in so after all the stress I was in bits!
So now have to wait for that no caller ID call yet again
Could you send me link of pic of the pillow you received please
Thanks Lynn xx
Hi Honeydovebee
Thank you for your reply. It’s good to have some positive experiences from people who have been through it.
As I’ve said to the ladies I received a call telling me my operation booked for next Tues has been cancelled due to drs strikes. I cannot believe all this and the fact that they booked me in knowing the strikes were looming is so cruel to my mind.
so now waiting for the next call.
Can you send me a link or pic of the pillow? I don’t know if it will help as obviously I have to have surgery on both sides but I can have a look and decide.
Thank you Lynn xx
