Hi, I have been told that CBD is helpfull alongside treatment for Breast Cancer. Does anyone have any experience with this. I have had surgery and waiting further scans to see if Chemo is needed or ust radiotherapy. Thanks

  • Hi ROWLIEGIRL welcome to the forum. I would not advise you to use anything at all that is an addition to any prescribed meds until you have seen whether you need chemo or not .

  • I don't know if it is ok to take alongside treatment - I'd check with your oncology team. I know you have to avoid antioxidants, like vitamin E, for example. Is better not to take supplements during treatment generally. Except for vitamin D which is beneficial. A good diet, exercise, even cardio exercise are great during chemo and improve outcomes when continued on in to recovery. Fasting to 600-800 cals the day before and day of chemo reduces chemo side effects.

However, afterwards, I have used CBD for menopausal symptoms - particularly hot flushes and mood symptoms. It has been fantastic for that.

Good luck with your treatment x

  • I am very sorry to hear about your situation. Although I am not a medical professional, CBD is of interest to support cancer patients. Some studies show that it can help manage pain, nausea, and anxiety associated with cancer treatment. However, before including CBD in your treatment plan, consult your doctor. They can provide individualized advice based on your particular situation. I recently purchased CBD oil for my dog from https://www.orlandomagazine.com/best-cbd-oil-for-dogs, but I consulted my vet to ensure I didn't hurt my pet. I wish you the best of luck with your scan and treatment. Stay strong, and take care of yourself!

  • It sounds as though you are interested in integrative oncology. I only recently heard of it. Maybe look at yes to life or cancer active to find out more and work out what’s best for you, and where to go for advice

  • I know you have to avoid antioxidants, like vitamin E, for example.

This may be true for some but not for all. When I was on chemo, I asked my oncologist very specifically about each suppliement, and he was completely ok with everything, including vitamin E. He was, however, very emphatic about me not taking any herbal stuff. I suppose different chemo drugs would react differently, so I would check with the oncologist before doing anything, whether it's supplements or any other therapy.

  • I think that’s the thing - we need specialist advice from our oncologists. I was told no antioxidants, but having read around the subject, and if I could turn back time, I would have taken advice from a cancer dietician, nutritionist and or integrative oncologist to work out what was safe/ beneficial to me on chemo x

  • Agree with all that has been said about checking with your oncologist. I even checked post chemo about taking biotin supplements to help hair regrowth. He gave the ok
