Hi all, sorry for mentioning the dreaded bowels but after having my 1st chemo session 2 weeks ago, initially I was a little constipated, followed by 48hrs of diarrhoea and now I'm a little constipated again. I am still managing to go once or twice daily but when I do I'm having to strain and if feels like im passing glass to the point where I'm in tears. There is also a little fresh blood on the tissue paper. Afterwards I'm in pain for a few hours. I'm starting to dread needing the loo!! I'm going to call the GP for some advice tomorrow but was wondering if anyone else has suffered with this.
Hi Anna Louise sorry you’re suffering . Have you been given your chemo units contact numbers they possible will be in a better position to give you advice and help . If you are feeling really unwell you should be able to speak to out of hours contact . Or get a more immediate response in the morning . Hope it improves soon .
This is truly a juggling act!! I had chronic diarrhoea and ended up using pads and Vaseline! My pal had chronic constipation and we both suffered pain on going to the loo…use Vaseline as much/often as you can and don’t force! It’s horrible but it will get better. Obviously do mention to chemo nurses. I wish you well xxx
Hi Margaret, thank you for your reply. Thankfully I'm not unwell with it just in pain. I managed to see a nurse at the drs today and she prescribed some drinks to help and gave me some cream to ease the soreness. Hopefully this will help but if not I will definitely go back. Hope you're getting on OK xx
Hi Tavares, thank you for your reply. It really is a vicious circle isn't it! I managed to get in to see a nurse at the GP surgery today who prescribed some drinks to help and also some cream. Fingers crossed this will sort things out. Hope you and your friend are OK too. Stay positive xxx
My 2 favs are Imodium and Vaseline! They’re my standbys and Go To’s!! BW xx
