Good morning all,

a little background, in 2020 I was diagnosed with breast cancer I had a double mastectomy my cancer was on the right side. After surgery cancer was found in my lymph nodes so then I needed full axillary clearance and chemo. It’s been two years clear now which is amazing but I feel like I’m falling apart all the time. I’ve had rotary cuff injury to my left shoulder which is progressively getting worse but it’s not in my surgery side so very odd has anyone else had this physio doesn’t seem to be helping last night it kept waking me up. I also now has a prolapsed uterus which is great fun (not) hope someone can shed some light because doctors don’t seem to care

  • Hi there,  and sorry you have this:(

I had a left mastectomy and clearance almost four years ago (after 1 node was positive.). I was fine for a couple of years,  though would sometimes get pain like toothache if I used that arm a lot, and had cording after chemo and 'extensive intensive scarring'.

Last November I hurt my shoulder and suddenly developed quite bad lymphodema in my lower arm and hand (+26, +11  in my arm overall). I saw my surgeon fairly quickly,  and because of the newly restricted movement she thought it a rotator cuff injury and referred me for physio and to the orthopedic team and said that they could request a scan.   In January I saw an oncologistical(?) physiotherapist who thought I'd a frozen shoulder.  She gave me exercises to do and they didn't help so she said it would take time (9 months or more) to resolve,  and they couldn't do surgery or a steroid injection due to the lymphodema.  I've not heard from the ortho team yet,  and yesterday my lymphodema nurse queried if they'd been given my referral.  Three weeks ago I asked my doctor for a scan in that area as I was worried it might be a recurrence,  and she requested one for my shoulder, to add it never happened,   which I'm having on 22/3.

It seems that I get better treatment from my doctor as in four months I've had 2 physio sessions and nothing else despite having a rotator cuff injury ( my doctor thinks it that as well) which has triggered my lymphodema. My advice would be ask for a scan on that area if you've not had one.

Can I ask if you are on letrozole or similar? Hormone blockers do dry and thin that area as a side effect. I know I'm affected by it,  and it seems pretty widespread based on F forums. The letrozole also makes rotator cuff injuries more likely btw.

Good luck and hope it improves:)!!
