I have had 2 chemo sessions now with the cold cap and my hair feels and looks dry and brittle. Can anyone tell me what my hair will be like once treatments have finished as I have heard the texture of my hair won’t improve. Like to know now so I can make a decision as to continue or stop with cap.
Thank you.
Hi Maisie2769 I’m still having treatment & have continued with cold cap so can’t help with the hair at the end. However, I found my hair improved when I switched conditioners, it’s a bit of a myth that you have to use simple or something like that so maybe go back to your usual conditioner and see if it makes a difference? I’ve not been told your hair won’t recover but it’s also worth considering that cold cap also helps promote hair regrowth so it’s not just about keeping hair so something worth considering before you decide whether to give it up or not! Good luck xx
Hi Shellbell24, thank you for the info. I did go out and buy anti-this and anti-that shampoo and conditioner, so maybe it just needs a little of what it likes. I will give it a go Good luck to you too for the rest of your treatment xx
I used Aussie 3 minute miracle and used straighteners whilst cold capping (Just didn't pull on the roots). I only washed my hair once a week, usually the day after chem (EC & docetaxol) and the dryness wasn't too bad. I finished my chemo in June last year and haven't noticed my hair being any dryer than usual. Keep going if you can and good luck x
Excellent to hear, and straighteners too. I have been following the rules to the dot and not even blow dried it. Really glad I joined forum and asked the question. I will definitely treat my hair to a good conditioning mask and carry on with the cap. Thank you soo much xx
I was the same! I tried to dry my hair naturally but also used the hairdryer on a cool setting. Do you have a silk pillow case? I found this helped with the overnight shedding. I lost about 30% overall, mainly on the crown but used Topixx for cover and never had to use my wig. It's only now that it's growing back that I can really see where I lost it and now have a lovely micro fringe but not complaining just grateful.
Good luck xx
ooo, silk bedding, No, but will certainly give it a go. I have lost about 40% so far and also mostly on my crown. I got it cut to shoulder length yesterday hoping the lack of weight will help with shedding and made an appointment for a wig fitting next week. Your micro fringe sounds beautiful but your good health sounds better xx
Only the pillow case, not the complete bedding ! I also use ankle weights (Set of 2 from Argos) on top of the outer cap and tied them down with a scarf to get better contact on the crown if that helps.
How many/what treatment are you having? I found the 3rd week from starting treatment was the worst but it did get better. I never went anywhere without a lint roller to get rid of the hairs and careful what to wear. I sort of have new hair growing all the way around my head I think from where the cap didn't fit fully but have a long bob so can hide most of it (Until my fringe decides to poke out)
Good luck xx
Hubby will be disappointed I found a V shaped one, so that is on order.
I am having 4 x EC at 3 week intervals, 2 down, 2 to go and then Paclitaxel every week for 12 weeks, once those are complete move on to Radiotherapy, but unsure for cycle for that at the moment. I had heavy shedding 2 weeks after 1st round. My hair has been mid-back length for as long as I can remember, but this week had it cut above shoulders to get some weight off. I thought I'll have the wig anyway for when I go out and it will always grow back.
Have you been given the all clear? Do you need any further treatment? xx
My hair was horribly dry after chemo and cold cap, but it did not all fall out and did recover its texture. Patches of it fell out and it's been a bit tricky getting a hairstyle I've felt confident with but on the whole I would recommend struggling on with it if you can.
