Just thought I would check in with all you lovely people. I’m two years on since surgery followed by radiotherapy and wanted to offer reassurance to all that are just at the start of this dreadful roller coaster. You will get through it, survival rates are really high and treatment does not have to be debilitating. Yes I still worry about recurrence and think every ache and pain is a new cancer in my body, but I’m still here leading my normal life, as a wife, mum and full time teacher. I am taking tamoxifen and go for my annual checks and try to keep fit, enjoying a small glass of wine most nights. Stay positive but remember it’s ok to need some time and support to get through this. Don’t rush or compare your self to others, we are all different and there is no rule book on how to get through cancer. Wishing everyone love, happiness and a positive outcome.
Love it! Thank you, it really does help to know that there are people surviving as we read so many Celebs for example, who are not. A positive attitude, taking one day at a time, and self belief that “I will get through this” are all good mantras. Glad you’re in good place, sending very best wishes and thank you again! XxX
Thank you for writing your post. It's great to read that you are through it and getting on with your life. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node +1 other node removed last Thursday. The consultant said they would see me in 4 weeks. Long time to wait to hear if the margins and nodes were clear and find out if I will have chemo or just radiotherapy. I'm a worrier and the waiting is hard...
Dear Natty, the waiting is really difficult, but try to remember the surgery almost always eliminates the vast majority of the cancer in the breast. If they only took 2 nodes, I would take that as a positive that they didn’t feel they needed to take more at this stage.. give yourself time, and remember what ever you are feeling is ok! It’s natural to worry, but trust the professionals and keep yourself well and fit for the next phase of the cancer beating journey..which you will get through in time. Sending love x
