Hi All.
I have managed not to catch covid for nearly 3 years, including through all of my treatment for breast cancer. I had 2 operations, chemo and radio. Finishing at the end of october. I have just had my first year scan which is all clear.
I have now got covid, along with my husband, I did a covid test yesterday morning after a rough night.
I have been offered antiviral tablets or intravenous. I have a phone consultation in the morning when I can decide if I want them or not.
I was just wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation. And whether they chose to have them.
I feel rough....like a bad head cold...coughing. sneezing. Hot. Cold. But I don't know whether to let covid take its course if I don't get any worse and will the antiviral make me better or have bad side effects.
Thankyou in advance
Ny1
I finished all cancer treatments like you, end of last year and got COVID19 2 weeks ago. When I sent my results to gov.uk I was rung by a doctor the next day who went through what current meds I’m on then offered me antiviral tablets. They were couriered to me within 24 hrs and they kicked in within the next 24hrs! The flu like symptons disappeared and I felt fine! Got a negative reading after 5 days on the tablets. Go for it!
Hi, I had Covid about 5 months after finishing radiotherapy and I was offered antivirals, which I took. I had one rough night with a high temp before they kicked in and I felt so much better very quickly. Hope this helps
Thankyou. I've actually started to feel worse in the last couple of hours......so if I still feel like this tomorrow I'm all in....antivirals.
Hi Ny1 I had covid at the beginning of the year when I was half way through my chemo. I reported the positive test but didn’t get offered the antiviral or even get a call. I was unwell for about 4-5 days but felt the after affects for longer. I wish I had been offered the antiviral judging from the other replies so I would def take it! Hope you feel better soon!
Hi Ny1 , haven’t been in your situation as not eligible for antivirals but I believe there may be a time issue here so would suggest checking this. What I mean is, I think you may have to start on the antivirals within a certain time of contracting Covid, for them to be effective. Don’t take this as gospel as I’m not medical! But check it out sooner rather than later to make sure that you still have the choice. I may have got the antivirals confused with another treatment but do check.
Sorry you have this added worry, hope you’re soon on the mend, love and hugs, HFxx
I had the intravenous antibodies and felt so much better afterwards, within 48 hours. HappyFeet1 is correct, they need to administer them within 5 days of symptoms/positive test I was told x
Thankyou. Yes i was told this morning by Dr I have until Thurs for tablets and couple days longer for intravenous. But I wouldn't consider intravenous as a first option because I have lymphadema in my left arm and my right arm the veins gave up after 2nd chemo. To take any blood it is literally like getting blood from a stone.
I am still in 2 minds becsuse of poss side effects of tablets but I thought I would see how I feel by the morning. X
Thankyou. Yes I'm in 2 minds because of side effects of tablets but I thought I would see how I feel tomorrow. As I said to Happyfeet1 ...intravenous wouldn't be my first option because of lymphadema in left arm and shocking veins in right. I do like the thought of feeling better though X
