Hi, I  was diagnosed with invasive ductal T1 G1 tumour on the 22nd December.  I had a lumpectomy and lymph node removal on the 25th Jan..I have my follow up on 20th Feb but already know I will need radiotherapy.  My concern is I'm just so tired. I didn't think I'd feel this fatigued with this type of surgery. Did anyone else feel like this a week after surgery? My minds being on overdrive and I keep thinking it's the cancer that is making me feel this way. Can anyone reassure me please that this is normal and will pass.

  • Hello Twiglet,

I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy on the 1st December 2022. I also felt very tired for a number of weeks after. On going out for walks found that after about half an hour I felt like I had run a marathon.
It’s normal to feel very tired and lethargic, just listen to your body and rest when you can.

I had a second operation as the first did not get clear margins. This was on the 5th January, I didn’t feel as tired, but feel more tender this time around. But I guess that’s due to having two operations in such a short time.

Take each day as it comes and try not to allow yourself to do too much. Resting is so important to aid your recovery xx

  • Thanks so much for your reply. I feel a bit more reassured now. I'm so sporty and normally on the go all the time so feeling like this is concerning me. I hope your second op was a success and wish you a full recovery

  • Hi   I had the same op as you and also felt fired. Don’t underestimate the anaesthetic and how long that takes to get out of your system! It’s totally normal to feel tired so just rest as much as you need.  Each week you get more energy! Good luck with the rest of your journey! X

  • Thankyou for the reassurance. It's such a shock and I underestimated how I would feel afterwards. I hope you've now made a good recovery.x
