I was diagnosed with grade 2 invasive lobular breast cancer February 2022. I was put on letrozole tablets and zoladex injections as I was only 46. Fast forward 11 months and I finally had lumpectomy and senital biopsy on 18th January 2023. Bad news is the cancer has spread to my lymph nodes and has spread around my breast which didn’t show up on my latest MRI and mammogram. Now I’m having to go through more surgery in February consultant said medial which is close to chest wall. Could the spread be due to them leaving me for 11 months before surgery. Could this have been prevented. A mastectomy still isn’t out of the question.

  • Hi  sorry to hear of your ongoing diagnosis. I think it's just really difficult to know if something could have been prevented or whether something could have been different and I think it's really a question for your consultant. I hope you are able to talk this through with them, but most importantly, understand the best options for your treatment now to deal with this.  Best wishes

  • Hello Moo Moo Max. I too was diagnosed with invasive lobular cancer grade 2.  My original mammogram was 11 months late due to Covid.  Scans showed no met spread.  Eventually had mastectomy with implant, but also showed up in lymph nodes.  Had to go back for full lymph node excision which showed 7 of 14 cancerous.  Subsequently had chemo then radiotherapy.  Currently recovering from surgery again.  Bilateral.  Implant damaged by radiotherapy so removed and replaced.  I’m sharing with you as we can never know what might or could have been.  They were fairly certain my lymph nodes were ok SCAN showed all ok.  Mine was already undetected in the lymph nodes.  Having said all of this I do think you should ask why you had to wait 11 months for the lumpectomy and get some reassurance from your consultant.  Wise words from Irishgirl16 ….. I wish you all the very best with your treatment.  It’s important to move forward at the same time I hope you get an appointment soon to discuss.  Best wishes xxx J
