Hi everyone. I have recently started a course of radiotherapy and was wondering what skin cream I can use to moisturise the area. Has anyone used something that really helped and made the skin feel good? Any tips generally would be really welcome. Thanks !
They should advise you. I was told E45 or Aveeno then they gave me Flamigel when I started to get quite red and they advised Aloe Vera gel kept in the fridge to cool it down. Please ask your team for advice. If the skin breaks down they can give you specific creams (mine didn’t break down). Important to ask - did they give you a phone number when you went for your scan appointment? Or a leaflet? The effects can peak up to two weeks after treatment finishes so it’s important to know what to do.
Hi LizzieMillie I used a combination of fridge based Aloe Vera gel and Nivea cream ( the blue container type,as it has no perfume etc) I did have to get some extra cream from BCN for the last couple of sessions of RT as my skin had become very hot, sore and was beginning to split. The cream was wonderful! Stopped all the painful effects, once it was healed, I went back to my regime. I still moisturise the affected boob regularly, as I was told to do it for a long time after it had healed.
I'm due to go and see the oncologist on 15th, after having my one year mammogram on 10th, so I'll check if I have to continue the moisturising.
Good luck!
Sally
Hi there thanks for response. I was initially told E45 but another radiotherapist said not to use that - hence my confusion and thought I would see what others have used. The Aloe Vera sounds good I will give that a try.
Hi Dicha thanks for replying - sounds like you had a rough time. I have had 3 treatments out of 15 and am really hoping it doesn't become too painful. The Aloe Vera sounds like a safe bet so i will be getting some asap. Good luck with your appointment x
Hi Zuma thanks for the reply - that makes sense I think I was just nervous as they told me the cream mustn't have certain ingredients. I am probably overthinking! Good luck with your treatment too - you are just ahead of me by the sound of it so I expect you can't wait for it to be finished :)
Hi Lizzie Millie, apologies for late response.
It can be confusing when there's so much info to take in.
I have a while to go yet, my treatment doesn't finish until 13th Feb and tbh I feel drained one day and good the next but I know that it's only temporary so I deal with it.
Zuma xx
