I had a mastectomy four months ago, and yesterday I was fitted for a prosthesis. I went into a small room with two chairs and one mirror and several bin liners full of bras. It felt a bit like being at the WI jumble sale. I suspect this was down to NHS cuts, but it was very unpleasant for what was a quite personal experience.
However the lady was really lovely, knowledgeable and helpful, and I came away with a new bra and a fake boob.
It felt okay to begin with, but after about 15 minutes of wear it creeps sideways. I feel I have to constantly adjust it. What I don’t know is whether this is normal, or whether there are any tricks to keep it in place. Any help, advice, comments or suggestions would be really really useful
I would say I had 3 ladies in the room with me and although it was a bit intimidating I wish I’d waited as after 4 months of chemo I lost 2 stone! My prosthesis is bigger than my other boob so now I have to stuff my mastectomy bra on the other side..I’m laughing as it’s also bizarre! Get a good mastectomy bra and don’t hurry about wearing a bra in the winter unless going somewhere special, well, that’s my motto xxx
Hi, thanks for the quick reply. They gave me what seems a very good bra. Better than the one from Marks & Spencer anyway. I probably need to give myself time to get used to it. They did say I could go back for a smaller one if I should lose any more weight.
