Can anyone advise on what is the best bra for comfort after a lumpectomy and node biopsy. I am nine days post surgery and the scars are really sore. I am wearing a soft sports bra but this is not terribly comfortable. I would be greatful for any help

  • I was most comfortable in vest tops with support in them.
Good luck with your recovery x

  • Hi  , I bought Royce front opening (poppers, not zip) post op bras. They were soft and comfy. But a lot depends on where your scars are. Some folk have separate lumpectomy and node biopsy incisions, but in my case I had one very long incision from which the surgeon accessed the beast and the nodes. Think there are pros and cons; my scar was so much bigger than expected, down the side of my breast from just at the start of my armpit. But those with separate node scars sometimes seem to get more irritation and discomfort. I got my first couple of Royce bras from a local shop then ordered a third online. Best if you can try them on obviously. Hope you can find a comfy one. Love and hugs, HFxx

  • I bought the 3 pack of non wired bralettes from M&S they were recommended to me. I could take the padding out if I wanted  . I found the node biopsy more sore than the breast scar, 3 weeks after surgery there are still a lot of my T-shirts I can’t wear due to the soreness of the scars and not into my normal bras.
Good luck and virtual hugs x

  •    I got these two, first one I wear in the day and the second mostly at night after first two weeks or in an evening.

Can honestly say they are probably the most comfortable bras I’ve ever worn and give great support when you still feel tender.
    I’m 38C.

i got a size 18 (for cup size) on the second one (crop top bralet, even though I’m normally a size 14 top) just fyi as the fit felt better.
Hope things ease soon for you Fingers crossed

  • Hi, I am a 38G and found the M&S post surgery bra to be ok. I also bought some tshirt bra tops and despite my size, these have been good as a bit of extra support during the night and comfy to sleep in. Hope your recovery goes well, best wishes

  • Hi “What the f”, Marks & Spencer do a range of post surgery bras - they are around £20. I find them great. I have bought a few styles and sizes. I find the cami bra version the comfiest! I was a 34 inch but I am comfy in a 36 inch a present probably due to swelling (I am 2 weeks and 3 days post surgery). My Consultant advised me against sports bras as they can squash your boobs rather than support them. Good luck xx

  • I cried in the M&S changing rooms as I was in a real flap about all of this, a week before surgery.

It is three months down thge line and I have used three different bras in rotation, that I bought online in a rush. By far the best (but most expensive) was the black one from Cancer Research UK online shop. It's black with hearts around the band. It's so comfy and, although needs hand washing, is standing the test of time as I wear it a lot. I'm just about to try and find something a bit more 'sexy' now that I don't have to wear them any more. Another minefield, as my cleavage is weird due to implant. I will keep you informed if I have any more success!

  • Marks flexi fit post surgery still is my preferred bra, really comfortable.  Have a royse which is good and also a post surgery back fastener from marks too.

  • I’m due to have surgery soon too although don’t have a date yet. Do you go up just in the back size or in the cup too?

  • I just stuck to the size I was originally, but went smaller with the M&S one, as it has weird mini cup shapes where your nipple is, and I wanted it to fit snugly and be supportive.
