Hi all ,
Just wondering how unusual it is for your consultant not to be at consultations?
I've had pre, mid and post chemo meetings. My consultant came to the first one and introduced himself then left
I feel that having the meeting with different doctors each time has made things more complicated.
For example at my 'mid' meeting I was told that my next surgery would be the middle of January and that I would get my date at my 'post' meeting which was today.
I didn't get a date today and when I asked if it would still be the middle of January she said " if that's what you were told, then yes" .but I was left thinking that if it was incorrect that I'd be given the date today could it also be incorrect that it will be mid January?
I was too busy trying not to cry and my appointment came to a bit of an abrupt end which perhaps it wouldn't if I'd seen the same person each time and built a bit of a relationship with them.
Just lying in bed stewing it over and wondered about other people's experiences?
Thanks
I have seen 3 different consultants now in 2 hospitals. The BC nurses have answered any questions that I had including following up appt dates. I was lucky that my surgeon has remained throughout. Speak to the BC nurse, I hope you get your date in Jan x
I saw 2 different surgeons, 2 different oncologists ans 3 different Breast Cancer Nurses. I did query the 2 different oncologists at one point and they said the whole team is interchangeable as they all attend the Multi Disciplinary Team meeting where they discuss each case.
They did sometimes say to me they had a slightly different view from others but I was always kept fully informed.
Thanks , Gardinia and Beatthebreast
I'm reassured that I'm not alone.
I think the previous doctors may have been at the MDT meetings, but it doesn't appear that the one yesterday was. I think part of my frustration was having just finished chemo it was a real effort to get there and my feet were sore and blistered that to have none of my questions answered made it seem such a waste of everyone's time.
Our Breast Care Nurse team are just so busy, it's impossible to get hold of them .
As Tavares says it'll all be happening in the background, I just need to wait for that letter to drop through my door in January and remember that because.my prognosis is good there will have been people yesterday with much worse meetings than mine!
Thanks all for taking the time to reply
