Nipple and breast tenderness

Last April I had a lumpectomy followed by a 2nd and 3rd op in May and July. I then had radiotherapy in October but since my 3rd operation I have breast pain and nipple tenderness that comes and goes. Recently the tender nipple seems worse so I spoke to my breast nurse who said try voltarol but they don’t seem to be worried. I’m terrified it’s come back although I had my first year clear in April and was discharged in August.

Although not the same I finished RT in September this yr to my mastectomy left side. Apart from the burns, all was fine till recently now suffering pain in ribs, underarm and ex nipple area. Was told not to worry as body reacting to the treatment which can take up to a year to dissipate. It’s not constant so I’m not worrying.

  • Hi tavares am the same as you .I had masectomy left side and radiotherapy my treatment also finished in September. I I too am experiencing the same discomfort and pain as you. In the exact same areas.  It comes and goes like yours. I was told the same thing. My last ultra sound showed some scar tissue . I had a sarcoma in my breast which is rare and this is why I continue to have scans.although it is gone x

  • I too have been experiencing lots of pain in my breast and ribs post reconstruction and reduction Dec 2021 then radiotherapy Feb 2022. Have been really worried but had mammogram and ultrasound yesterday and all clear. Have been advised radiotherapy can cause pain like this.  It’s reassuring to hear others are having similar experiences though. Hope this helps you too. X

  • Hi, I finished my radiotherapy in December 2021 but still experience the sharp burning pain in my breast every so often. I was advised by the consultant that pain from the radiotherapy can continue for up to 2 years.
