Did anyone have a lump for a few weeks before they went to see their GP? How could I have been so stupid
Hi there and sorry you find yourself on this site but everyone here is great and no subject is taboo! I had mammogram as normal in 2013 which showed calcifications, but they said ‘not an issue’. Went back 2015 and 2018 and nothing showed up at all. Then In Dec last yr found tiny lump, rang GP and said “it’s v small, no need for urgent app”. She said “come in tomorrow!“ She had read my notes and realised that calcifications in breast are a pre cursor to cancer!! Within a month I had mastectomy…you may still have caught it early in which case everything will be done to give you the best and most appropriate treatment. Fear is the issue. Keep a positive outlook and try to keep busy to put thoughts out if your head. X
Me! I had has an innocent cyst previously so when new lump appeared I decided for myself it was another cyst and ignored it for several weeks. Eventually went to GP who referred me. She also thought cyst. There was indeed a cyst but with 4 tumours hidden underneath, 3 of which turned out to be cancer. I had a mastectomy 4 weeks later. One was tiny, only 3mm. Don't beat yourself up, hindsight is amazing x
Hi Ponty, I’d had ‘previous’ like some others here - in my case, a referral for ‘nodular’ breasts at age 21 (!), fibroadenoma around age 48, cysts a few years later….. so when I felt ‘thickening’ I just thought cysts again as they’d felt like general lumpiness, while the fibroadenoma felt like a frozen pea. Anyway, I left it for many weeks, went on holiday, got ready for new term (teacher) then finally made doctor appointment. Didn’t even say it was a breast lump so waited a couple of weeks for an evening appointment. She was immediately suspicious, was seen in breast clinic within 2 weeks and they confirmed that it looked like cancer. Fast forward 4 years and here I am, after op and radiotherapy, popping Anastrozole for 5 years or more. I know it was stupid not to go sooner but it’s done. The beast was 13mm so not too monstrous, but of course with hindsight I should have gone when I first found it. Long ramble to say that you’re absolutely not alone!!
Wishing you well, lots of support here both during and after treatment. Love and hugs, HFxx
Don't beat yourself up about it - there's enough to cope with without that! If it's any help, on another forum a couple of GPs (as in doctors, not grandparents...) actually admitted to not doing anything about their lumps for a few weeks; fear does that to everyone.
Best wishes
Yes I waited 3 months, then went in feb I had surgery and radiotherapy. I’m now all clear
