Hello I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer following a routine mammogram and was asymptomatic so it was a huge shock. What a roller coaster the last few weeks have been. Having had previous malignant melanoma I thought I had taken one for team cancer already but sadly reality is it doesn’t work this way.
Am hoping this forum will help me feel less isolated.
thank you Adders
I am sorry you had to meet us this way Adders but you are welcome.
My cancer was found like yours through a mammogram and like you I had been totally unaware it was there. It is such a shock as you say but it probably means it has been found quite early ( later you might have noticed a lump?) and early treatment is often very successful.
I had my treatment in 2015 and to date, my results remain clear.
If you want to chat through your situation, vent anger, cry,ask questions, laugh ( it's good to feel normal) you might find the Awake thread is helpful. There is usually someone around to join you and help with the feelings you have and you will certainly find the empathy and understanding you are searching.
The start of this process can be overwhelming. Waiting for results, wondering where to find accurate information, grasping the medical terminology can be a lonely place but I think you will find the support you are looking for among these groups.
I hope all goes well for you. Keep in touch.
Love Karen
Thanks so much for the reassuring words. I am only 3 days post op and had a round block therapeutic mammoplasty and 6 lymph nodes removed from under my arm. My post op pain was bad but the codeine has caused more problems with constipation but am getting there. The nights are the worst as I developed insomnia when I started with the menopause a few years ago and now sleep or lack of is worse than ever as had to stop my HRT and so the night sweats and brain fog returned. Anxiety and uncertainty are not good bed companions I am also now getting numbness in the arm where I had my sentinel biopsies and am hoping this isn’t the start of lymphoedema.
What a rubbish Club we’ve been forced to join!! It’s so rife and in my village I know of 4 people who all have different cancers! We all commiserate and chat about treatments which is really good, conversing with like minded peeps! I wish you well on your journey..not great dealing with menopause on top of everything else but try distancing yourself from C and think about what you’d say to someone in your position..it sometimes helps. BW xx
Thanks for the kind words and yes it is rubbish to have to be in this club but a lovely bunch of supportive people so I feel very blessed. My current issues are trying to sleep even with prescribed sleeping pills and also the pain under my arm from the sentinel node biopsies (thankfully came back all clear) and weird numbness on my outer arm. However I use a brilliant app that someone recommended for post op exercises called bWell and would recommend for anyone in early days post op obviously as long as your healthcare time advice exercise.
take care all
