Wasn't sure what to name my subject.or where to post. But here goes.

I had a lumpectomy and some lymph nodes removed in April this year. Having been told it was cancer and there was a shadow but a biopsy was taken and they said it was nothing to worry about. After surgery I was told the shadow was DCIS had shown up in the margins. Had I not looked up DCIS I wouldn't be so bothered. However at initial appointment with oncologist this was skipped over. The letter to my GP mentions it. When I went back after having suffered through Radiotherapy and side effects from Letrozole.. The GP Letter makes no mention of the DCIS. I Know that's early breast cancer but it was still present. Then having had the problems with letrozole I was taken off it and still waiting after 5 weeks for side effects to leave my system. She said my cancer was low risk and that hormone therapy wouldn't benefit me that much.

So here am I thinking did I need all the stress of these past 7 months. Did I really need the surgery at that point? I am feeling a right meds still.

Thanks for reading.

  • Hi Devon; I doubt you would have had unnecessary surgery but it does sound as if you didn't have all the facts.  Perhaps you could contact your breast care nurse for reassurance.

    Best wishes.

  • Hi Devon, I had a recall from a mammogram I had on the 6th October. I had further investigation and two biopsies done on my right breast last Friday.

I was informed that the find on my breast was microcalifications   and having seen the X-ray, these were in two separate places in my breast. I get my results today.

It has all happened so quickly and to be honest I haven’t slept much and not been able to concentrate at work. I’ve taken today off.

  • Sorry Devon, I hit the key to soon and hadn’t finished typing. Just wanted to say that I’m led to believe that microcallifications can also be an early form of cancer known as DCIS.

If you have concerns speak with your nurse or GP. I hope everything goes well for you.

  • Hi Devon

i think contacting your breast care nurse would help you. I think it’s good they have caught your DCIS early. Raise it with GP as well perhaps.
all the best and there’s lots of info here, especially on DCIS forum
