I’ve been diagnosed with primary breast cancer and it hasn’t spread anywhere I went for my mri scan on Thursday but I couldn’t do it I did have a go and got in the machine but had to come out I feel so stupid but more scared now that I didn’t have it I don’t know what happens now

  • Call your breast cancer nurse and ask if you can try again. I hate the MRI mostly because it’s so blummin’ uncomfortable no matter how many bits of foam they use! I imagine I’m sunbathing on the beach in Greece and just focus on the sound and feel of the sun and the waves. If I didn’t I’m sure I’d want out too.

  • Hello Nonitodi, please don’t feel stupid about it - there are many people who have the same reactions as you did, that’s why they give you a panic button!  I agree with Jesse, ask if you can have another go, and just try and relax and go with it. I had one today, and personally I find it easier if I keep my eyes closed throughout as enclosed spaces bother me - though there was a lovely image of a beach with palm trees that I could have looked at through a mirror if I’d wanted to. It makes a lot of weird noises too, but don’t worry about that, you will have headphones that play music. Good luck next time

  • Great that it hasn't spread anywhere! As for the MRI, they may be able to offer to do it under light sedation -- your nurse should be able to say if this is an option for you. If not, it may be worth asking the doctor what exactly they were aiming to find out with this scan and if there are other ways to find out the same information by other means. Also worth asking is how crucial it is to get this information.
